Patrick Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 Complete game win for Paul Byrd and the Tribe against Roy Halladay and the Jays! A lineup that features Kelly Shoppach, Jhonny Peralta, and Shin-Soo Choo in the 3, 4, 5 slots striking terror north of the border. Cliff Lee going for #16 and a sweep in Toronto. [...How does Mussina have 15 wins? I try not to pay too close attention this year.] ...Now if only the Royals would lose a little more frequently. At this point in his career, Lofton will only play for a team that has a legit post-season chance and will pay him more than he is worth. So whichever contender, with a large enough checkbook, that is most desperate for a singles hitter with a little bit of speed left. Hopefully it will be some team other than Houston, Cleveland, Atlanta, WSox, Cubs, SF, Texas, Pittsburgh, Philly, NYY, or LAD--he really needs another jersey to hang in his rec room. Rays? BSox? Brew Crew? Quote

Dan Gould Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 Wakefield is headed to the DL, can they fucking send that asshat Buchholz away too? Jesus Christ he sucks. (so much for the new me). Quote
BERIGAN Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 Wakefield is headed to the DL, can they fucking send that asshat Buchholz away too? Jesus Christ he sucks. (so much for the new me). One of the big problems expecting to win every year, is it's very hard to develope young pitchers. Tom Glavine's ERA his first year??? 4.56 (back when that was considered bad) 7 wins, 17 losses. Smoltz had a 5.48 ERA after his first 12 starts. Maddux was 6-14 with 5.61 ERA his first full year. Of course, they were all 21-22, and Buchholz is 23....still damn young..... Let's see, we have lost Glavine, Smoltz, Hudson(For next year as well) Mike Hampton for 2/3'rds of the season. Chuck James had a partial tear in his Rotator cuff, and looks like he was a fluke his first 2 seasons...Rafael Soriano, who was supposed to be the closer all season long, has pitched 14 innings, and has some mystery elbow issue. Peter Moylan, the 8th inning guy had Tommy John surgery....Mike Gonzalez missed more than half the season. So, in other words, "we" are more than willing to take that asshat off your hands. Perhaps s trade for our can't miss asshat, Jeff Francoeur? Quote
Patrick Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 or for the Indians can't miss asshat, Jeremy Sowers? Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 They're all asshats but ours is still better than yours. Pass. The simple fact is there is no room for error with this fucker throwing every fifth game away. The Rays are winning again, the margin will be 4 1/2 and if they lose again tomorrow, that will be what, a 1 game lead in the wild card? fuckin' pathetic. Quote
jlhoots Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Gagne stinks. Brewers still win 5 -4 in 13 innings. Guess I'll root for the Cardinals tonight. Quote

Patrick Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Big shoutout for Cliff Lee, now 16-2! Lowered his ERA to a league leading 2.45. 104 pitches, 83 for strikes, only one Blue Jay batter got to a 3 ball count. If Lee had been half this good last year (and Carmona and Sabathia had been at least 2/3 of their regular season selves), the Tribe would have had the best record in AL, taken the Yankees, BSox, and been World Champs! All the stars have to be in alignment. Didn't happen for the Tribe last year. Maybe it won't for big payroll teams in the AL East this year. Instead, Sabathia is now the best starter in the NL, Westbrook is gone for the season, Hafner and Victor Martinez miss most of the season--a season from Hell along the North Coast. At least Joe Borowski is no longer in Cleveland. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. ...what else do you think about with teams that have a 0.1% chance to make the playoffs. Quote

BERIGAN Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Adam Dunn traded to the Diamondbacks! I guess they felt they had to do something to try to counteract the Manny trade, but he ain't no Manny. Perhaps having the lowly, sickly braves take 3 of 4 had something to do with it.... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/08/dunn-traded-to.html Quote

What happened to the Big 3? Mulder - career over. Hudson has Tommy John and will miss 09 and most Giant fans wish Zito did have Tommy John surgery. Quote

The Dodgers don't have a closer (he's hurt). And are wasting a spot with Andruw Jones. Then they can't think, so the guys get throw out running bases. The Dodger will finish at .500. Diamondbacks should be alittle better than .500, with or without Adam Dunn. Course, we can always root for Colorado to win their last 21 games and pass everybody up. Quote
papsrus Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Longoria AND Crawford out with hand injuries. Longoria on the 15 day DL with a fracture. Crawford's status to be clarified Tuesday, I believe, but he's got something called middle finger tendon subluxation, which means his tendon is off the rails, I think. ... ouch. This throws a monkey wrench into the proceedings. Quote

Big Al Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 This just in: Paul Byrd traded to the BoSox for a player to be named later. Link I'm bummed cuz I was gonna go to his book signing here on the 23rd, when the Indians are in town. Still, the Sox will be here for a weekend series in September, so hopefully it'll get rescheduled to that weekend. What do you think, Dan? Guy closed out against the Yanks in the playoffs last year; think he can do it again this year? I didn't realize how old he was, but he seems to have really turned it around this second half, if that story is to be believed. SS1's gotta be dying right now. Quote

Yeah , i was just flipping thru the channels and i came upon a news conference from Fenway with Theo and Francona . This is a good deal because of the Wakefield situation. Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 I'm not going to expect much but I guess he's protection for Wakefield if his injury is more serious than they think (no way he'll duplicate his performance) and also for Buchholz if he doesn't improve and/or Colon doesn't get himself ready at Pawtucket (he can't be worse than Clay, so why not?). In the universe of pitchers available in August, you could probably do worse than Paul Byrd, and at least the price is right - a player to be named or cash considerations. Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 But now the bigger news is that the Tigers are placing Sheffield on waivers? No one announces waiver moves, this sounds like they are trying to get rid of him after the brouhaha about his playing time and whether he is being "platooned". He's got one more year left on his contract, I believe, but it looks to me that its a no-brainer for the Rays to grab him. What he's got left I don't know but he's been starting to hit a bit more, I think. And that bat is always worthy of some respect. Plus he'd be motivated to get into a pennant race, and have the chance to hurt the Yanks. Quote
BERIGAN Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 I thought Detroit was nuts to offer him a 3 year deal. I didn't realize how blah his season was last year, 25 HR's 75 RBI's and a .265 BA 2 for his last 22 after starting to hit. Tigers will have to pay for all of next year, won' they??? Quote
