mike casinghino Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 i e-mailed a request for a mosaic box a couple of weeks or more ago. should i expect any kind of response to let me know that they received it. or by this prolonged period of silence, that they had a good laugh, and shredded it by now. jazzbo Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I've emailed quite a few requests. Some I've gotten replies to, some I haven't. If I got a reply it was within a week. . . . One set I requested was the Teagarden Roulette sides. I got a reply that this was a nice idea, but not enough material, it would have to be paired with another Roulette artists (in reply I suggested Wingy Manone) and that the possibilities weren't great. Then several years later out came the Roulette Teagarden set with a disc and a half of newer discovered live stuff! So my initial disappointment was for nothing! I hope you get a reply, but if you don't it doesn't mean that your suggestion wasn't given thought. Quote
Brad Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I've usually gotten responses to my emails. Usually, I'm bothering Michael about a Three Sounds box and he's responded every time. In fact, when I was up at Mosaic in the summer and introduced myself, he showed me his ideas on how he was trying to get them into a select. Quote
Ed S Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 My experience has been similar to Lon's. I've gotten replies to most, but not all all of my emails. I've noticed that many of the replies i get from MC come on Sundays, perhaps when he has a few moments to go through the mail. Brad - interesting about the Three Sounds. I'm hoping for something as I keep putting off looking for imports. I did the same thing with the Donaldson stuff and while it took a few years, I was finally rewarded. Quote
Brad Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Ed, I've been exchanging a few emails with him in the last couple of years and basically he said that a full Mosaic box is out of the question because it would just be too big (with which Dan agrees, btw). He said he's been trying to figure out ways to get it out and when I was up there he mentioned that a couple of selects were a possibility. He always insists that he hasn't forgotten about the project but I don't think it's anything short term. Of course, I'd like to be wrong about that. It may be time to bug him again! Quote
Shrdlu Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 It is amazing that a man who is as busy as Michael Cuscuna finds time to reply to our emails - I've had several replies, too. Not only that, but in 1997, I wrote to Blue Note at a California address that I saw on one of their CDs, and the reply came from Michael in New York (or Connecticut). Mike, when I first read your thread, I thought that you meant an empty Mosaic box! I have purchased a few of these, as you can store four 4 CD jewel cases in them in a compact space. Quote
mike casinghino Posted October 3, 2003 Author Report Posted October 3, 2003 (edited) shrdlu, not an empty box, i would like a mosaic box filled with unreleased blue note thangs. Edited October 3, 2003 by mike casinghino Quote
BruceH Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 I've also gotten several replies to my suggestions from Michael. Considering how busy he must be, I wouldn't blame him for never bothering with individual e-mails! Quote
Tjazz Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 I have a couple of empty Mosaic black boxes. Anyone interested? Quote
tranemonk Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 I've usually gotten responses to my emails. Usually, I'm bothering Michael about a Three Sounds box and he's responded every time. In fact, when I was up at Mosaic in the summer and introduced myself, he showed me his ideas on how he was trying to get them into a select. I just put on "Live at the It Club" and was wondering if we had discussed the need for a Three Sounds box... and Lo and Behold... WHAM!!! I was just looking at the discography over at AMG... and it appears that not all of their stuff had been released on CD.... Is it time for a lobbying campaign??? And what would be in it??? Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 I have a couple of empty Mosaic black boxes. Anyone interested? You mean boxes specific to Mosaic releases? Do you have a Curtis Fuller or a Blue Mitchell mosaic box? Quote
LAL Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I've bugged Mosaic folks, mainly Scott Wenzel, over the past few years for some early jazz sets. Have always received a reply, which is often "would love to do that... but maybe someday." Quote
