bertrand Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 If I posted this on the 'old board' already, I apologize. For some strange reason, I can't seem to do a search on their archives... I got this info straight from Lee's brother Jimmy, so you know it's true. Before he picked up the trumpet, Lee Morgan tried out another instrument for a year. Anyone care to venture a guess? Bertrand. Quote
pryan Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Is it a wind instrument? If so, I'll guess alto sax. If not, I'll say bass. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 75% a guess, and 25% the vague notion that I've heard this before somewhere... upright bass Quote
Brad Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I'd say alto. Considering when he was born and that Bird was prevalent at the time, most kids probably wanted to emulate him. So, I'd say alto. Quote
sidewinder Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 He played alto horn along with the trumpet at high school. Quote
bertrand Posted October 2, 2003 Author Report Posted October 2, 2003 Nope - it was another instrument before alto horn and trumpet. Bertrand. Quote
shawn·m Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Damn, Google’s no help at all. Glockenspiel? Quote
AfricaBrass Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 My real guess is the clarinet. Quote
John B Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 seriously, though...I'm going to guess the zither: Quote
catesta Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 (edited) I mastered both of these instruments as a young lad, and Morgan was my inspiration. The problem is, I have no idea which one Lee started to play first, and before the trumpet. Edited October 3, 2003 by catesta Quote
bertrand Posted October 3, 2003 Author Report Posted October 3, 2003 And the answer is .... The vibes. Bertrand. Quote
catesta Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 (edited) Thank you for the answer bertrand. I was going to take a serious guess with drums, but I thought that was way off the mark. I would have never guessed vibes. I wonder if he was any good. Edited October 3, 2003 by catesta Quote
