Jazzmoose Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 It's "hipper-than-thou" on the journo's part. Well hell, unless you wear socks with sandals, it's almost impossible not to be hipper than I am... Quote

kenny weir Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Well, this is pretty cool I guess. Two points though: He is a bit snide about the online jazz community, yet it seems to me to be hipper and full of more and better information than the jazz press for which he writes. As for the bit: "There's also a thread (I think it was here, and I'm paraphrasing) by a “middle-aged L.A jazz fan” seeking similar" ... well, as a journalist, I think that's just inexcusable. Paraphrasing? Bullshit! Get it right! That thread wasn't even on this board. Shame. Quote
Big Al Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Well hell, unless you wear socks with sandals, it's almost impossible not to be hipper than I am... Wow, me & Moose have the same fashion sense!!! And I'll have you know that, tho you can't see it in the avatar there, I am wearing socks & sandals in that picture! Quote
bertrand Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 (edited) If they want weird, they should check out the message board at www.herbiehancock.com Some guys started a campaign to get him to play at a Washington Capitals game. Whatever. Bertrand. P.S. Which one of you is it Edited October 3, 2003 by bertrand Quote

It goes to show, once again, how often 'the press' has the facts straight. Jeez. Meanwhile, I'm sitting here, listening to Art Blakey's Meet You at the Jazz Corner of the World. How about that Mr. William Clayton Marquette as the Master of Ceremonies? Edited October 4, 2003 by wesbed Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 Could someone who subscribes to this magazine send in a correction please? Do they have a website and/or email and I can send one myself? I sent them a CD for review a few months ago, by the way.... Quote
ghost of miles Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 (edited) Has anybody else noticed what a high posts-to-member ratio this board has compared to the other two? Jazz Corner has 975 members and around 71,000 posts (so just a little over 70 posts per member) and AAJ has 1,050 members and just over 23,000 posts (so, close to 23 posts per member, although this is undoubtedly skewed--I don't think their post count includes all of the posts they lost in their hacking incident). Organissimo has 461 members and over 60,000 posts--roughly 130 posts per member. We are some prolific bastards, aren't we? Edited October 8, 2003 by ghost of miles Quote

JSngry Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 Like the off-screen life of Warren Beatty, this board is proof that quantity and quality need not be mutually exclusive. Well, SOMETIMES it is... Quote

montg Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Just received my Jazz Review today from across the Atlantic. Great magazine--hip enough to know that bulletin boards like this one are the broadsides of the 21st century. Quote

BruceH Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 One red-blooded male's input concerns famous jazz musicians who've appeared in porn flicks (you'd be surprised!), and there's also a thread (I think it was here, and I'm paraphrasing) by a “middle-aged L.A jazz fan” seeking similar. Presumably he'll be boasting about the size of his CD collection." ...Huh? I honestly haven't noticed either of these threads. Except for the "pastel colors" I would think he was talking about a different site. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 I assume that the porn thread he referred to was Aric's thread concerning soundtracks, either a misread or a misinterpretation on his part. I must admit I completely missed the other one...I don't remember seeing a "personals" forum anywhere around! Quote
