Rooster_Ties
Tom, you're funny! I just sent you guys $200 through the "donate" button. (Check your e-mail, Jim.) NOW how funny am I?? No rush getting them recorded for me. Work 'em into your live book, and play 'em some (at least a few places where you can), and get 'em in your bones a bit. You've got two years (a.k.a. "an eternity") to make good on 'em, before I start makin' any noise. And no they don't absolutely have to be from "Mother Ship" and "That Certain Feeling". Let me spin my entire Larry Young and BJP catalogs over the next couple months, and I'll get back to you with a list of potential tunes. I'll make the list fairly long, so there'll be lots to choose from. And Jim, you do have a copy of "Mother Ship", right?? 7/4
Very cool. I'll spare you the jokes about prog-rock and gold capes. but here's the mandatory... thumbs up and one of those green smiley things. . Jim Alfredson
The cape is on order. Nah, for real... I found a good deal on one and I might go get it in Detroit this week. I've always wanted a real analog synth and there are a few places on the new CD I'd like to use it. I actually recorded the MIDI out from the XK System just in case I wanted to re-record another synth playing some of the parts. I just gotta sell some of my organs... HAMMOND organs, that is. I've got three full-sized consoles (A100, C2, and CV) that I have no need for and they all sound killer. Want one?
7/4
No room, in fact I should really tune my Rhodes back to 12tet and get rid of it. I could use the space, I never play it any more. Of course once I tune it, I'll start playing it again... .
Jim Alfredson
I'm so glad I pulled out the real Rhodes for the intro to "The Bastard Songo" (real title forthcoming). Damn thing sounded so good through Joe's Peavey tube amp with the big ol' 15" speaker. In fact, I played it for a good 90 mintues today as I was exporting rough mixes from Cubase. One of these days I'd like to do a project with all Rhodes and synth bass / leads. That would be fun as hell! My Wurli 206 kicks ass, too. Too bad they are both so heavy; it's so much more convenient to take the Motif and deal with the simulations.
7/4
Yeah, they're heavy. I should tune the Rhodes and setup a Korg MS2000 I have next to it, so I can have some of that Rhodes/Moog thing...at least before I sell the Rhodes. A friend had a Whirly...they sound so unique. 7/4
You know what Jim...after the Moog, you probably really really really need a Mellotron. Maybe...just an idea...hey! Just think of all the moving parts that need to be serviced in one of those things. I wouldn't want one myself, but if I was you, Jim, I'm not sure I'd want one either! Jim Alfredson
You know what Jim...after the Moog, you probably really really really need a Mellotron. Funny thing is, the guy that's selling the Moog just sold a Mellotron. I would love to see one in person, but I don't think I'd want one. I did hear a rumor that they are starting to make them again. A Lark Ascending
I loved mellotron's...and there is a Mk VI in production. They don't catch fire on stage these days, so I'm told (I'm not sure if thats a + or -). http://www.mellotron.com/ I think the time is right for 'A Mellotron Tribute to Art Tatum'
Alexander Hawkins
I'm pretty sure they are back in production. There was a big article in Sound on Sound a couple of months ago about the new one!
