Noj Posted October 1, 2003 Author Report Posted October 1, 2003 Re: Root Down. Just my opinion. I probably should listen to it more before totally dismissing it... Actually, I was hesitant to include ROOT DOWN as well as a couple of others on my list. Embarassingly enough it is one of only two Jimmy Smith cds I own. Hurl all insults and rotten vegetables this way. Quote
BruceH Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I'm with Bev on this subject. For a long time I find myself switching genres periodically---I'll listen to a lot of swing for months, then go through a hardbop cycle, a lot of New Orleans, then maybe a blues jag, or a classical phase, or whatever. Lately I've been mixing up the rock and the bop. If you cycle through the styles of music (or "rotate" them) you'll rarely burn out on anything I find. Having said that, I have to admit that I listen to Kind of Blue exceedingly rarely, having burned every note into my brain long ago. Still love it though, but 'play it in my head' so to speak. BTW, I think most of Steely Dan's new album is just fine, but I did give their music an eight-year rest before Two Against Nature came out. Quote
