paul secor Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Thanks for posting that! When I was a kid I saw The Flamingos on TV performing their ballad hits - lip synching of course. Later on I heard some of their earlier up-tempo records, including "Jump Children", with it's cool bit of scat. But I had no idea that they were such dynamic live performers. They could have given a lot of people who had a reputation for live performances a run for their money. Quote
Stereojack Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Fantastic clip! This comes from the film "Go, Johnny, Go" (1959). Red Holloway did back them on some of their Chance records made in Chicago in the early 50's (including an early version of "Jump Children"), but I believe the tenor on this version is Jimmy Wright. KOB Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 You can also see The Flamingos sing and perform 'Jump Children' in the following movie (which can be easily purchased on VHS) http://www.allmovie.com/cg/avg.dll?p=avg&sql=1:20026 Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 There's also a nice clip of the Flamingos in jump mode in a CND doc about the twist, they include a lot of pre- and post- twist stuff for context and to make a movie of it. Quote
