neveronfriday Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 What do you guys (Flurin et. al) actually want to know? Session info? Details? If I like it/the new ones? Sorry for the delay. Too much partying in the "real world" these past days. Sidenote: @Flurin: and others: Do you/anyone have the discography of the Mosaic #239 "The Lester Young Count Basie Sessions 1936-1940 (4 CDs)"? For some reason, I forgot to download that one. The "Wayback/Internet Archives" machine complete fails on third-level links for this one.Blanks across the board. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could PM or mail me that one (plus anything else they have). On the side, next to hospitals and crap like that, I've been updating my "Mosaic discographies" and "Jazz in Paris" pages ... elsewhere. They are not live yet and won't be, until I get the dirt on that set. Thanks, guys. Quote
neveronfriday Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 that´s a nice sectionalfurniture you have - but what´s there on it? keep boppin´ marcel a) It's an IKEA system. Trustworthy, solid, cheap. OOP, so to speak. b) On it are, for the photo, the new "Jazz in Paris" out-of-series double CDs, just in case you were wondering. c) On the left side, you can see the base of a "Stelton" (Denmark) stainless-steel oil lamp. c) On the right side there is a the base of a weird sculpture I bought somewhere, at some point. d) Behind the CDs, you can see the bottom of a framed (outrageously expensive when compared to the price of the prints) "Aerobleu" quadruple set of prints I bought years ago. e) Just out of eyesight is a dark-blue bottle of "Conquistador Suave Blanco", one of the best tequilas I have ever tried. f) Next to that is a full glass. g) There's a naked girl dancing on the far left, but she wouldn't allow me to include her in the photo. Other questions? :D Don't want to miss a single one, eh! Trust you'll enjoy them! Cheers! I'm still missing the "new" single ones (I'm not ... like that weird Swiss dude, buying into others 'just for the cover') . I hate Universal for milking this series for what it's worth*. *I love Universal for having put this fabulous reissue series out there. It's become a fetish of mine. Cheers, Guy! Quote
king ubu Posted May 7, 2012 Author Report Posted May 7, 2012 Nah, I ended up buying only those with additional music or completely new (Jazz Boom N°1, Nathan Davis, Eddy Louiss, Quincy Jones, the JATP, Art Simmons). But I did get the Peiffer and Rhoda Scott sets today! Looking forward to listening to them! And the Pres/Basie disco is on the way! Quote
king ubu Posted May 7, 2012 Author Report Posted May 7, 2012 So, for the record, the Peiffer holds nearly as much prev. unissued live music as the two albums count for: CD1 #11-14: Live at the Cherry Hill Inn (BP-p,elp; Al Stauffer-b; Jimmy Paxson-d) CD2 #7: NPR radio (BP-p; ASt-b; Billy Jones-d) CD2 #8-10: Live from Glassboro State University (BP-p, ASt-b) There's some more Peiffer still in the can (speaking of CD reissues, that is), in addition to the second Laurie album (which is titled "Bernard Peiffer plays Cole Porters Can-Can"): "Presenting the BP Trio" and "Piano à la Mood" (Decca, 1957 and 1958, respectively), "Prelude, Fugue & Trio" (Polydor 1965) Here's hope for more Peiffer hors série sets! Make it two of them and fill them up with more live music, pu-llleeeeeeze! Quote

Big Beat Steve Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 There's some more Peiffer still in the can (speaking of CD reissues, that is), in addition to the second Laurie album (which is titled "Bernard Peiffer plays Cole Porters Can-Can"): "Presenting the BP Trio" and "Piano à la Mood" (Decca, 1957 and 1958, respectively), "Prelude, Fugue & Trio" (Polydor 1965) I have the "Piano à la Mood" (the one with the poodle jumping the fence on the cover) LP. It is nice but rather ... well ... mood-ish tinkling indeed. Not the most out-and-out hardcore jazz LP ever. Not sure if it is that essential on the reissue market. Quote

Well, if they throw it in with some other stuff, it should be nice enough. There's some other not-so-jazz stuff in the JiP series (the Crolla 2CD set for one). Anyway, I'm just crazy about crazy Peiffer and I'll get all that I can find! Quote
king ubu Posted May 9, 2012 Author Report Posted May 9, 2012 Here we go: Thanks for the complete list, Flurin. I will use it to fill in some gaps in my collection. Signed: A not-so-krazy-kollektorrr Oh well, I'm not THAT krazy either... miss a few of the original run, did - contrary to what's been stated by that other krazy kollektor above - not get any of the collector's releases unless they had additional music on them (or were entirely new to the series... no need for the Chet though, as I did after much, um krazy soul searching, jump for the wonderful Barclay box)... but I do have most of the original discs (I think Miles, Pres and Roach are missing, got them in other form or as part of boxes), all the hors série (save for #9-11, will get those soon, too, though), and after some searching I finally did get the 10" LP and the 12CD deluxe box, too... plenty of money spent on those two, but hey, the box still was around 10€ per disc or less, so it's not THAT much, and presentation is marvellous! Big Beat Steve Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 (edited) There's some other not-so-jazz stuff in the JiP series (the Crolla 2CD set for one). Oh yeah ... Having liked some of the other Crollas from that series of course I picked up that one too and was BITTERLY disappointed. And still am. Edited May 9, 2012 by Big Beat Steve Quote
ejp626 Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 I can't tell if Dusty Groove is slowing down on getting all the JiP discs or not. At one point they carried nearly all of them, including the Hors series. Anyway, I did just email them to see if they would be getting them in. Quote

No idea how much shipping from amazon.fr is (amazon.com has just recently stopped delivering to Switzerland entirely... at least as far as CDs are concerned... no idea why, maybe Obama will attack us next week?), but they do have them all for very good prices. As for the Crolla "hors série" - I think it's charming! But then I love many things coming from France, including plenty of films etc... Quote
endofcommon Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 I hope it is ok to add that I currently have the 75 and 25 cd box sets of Jazz in Paris for sale in the Classifies section. PM with any questions. Great music but I need a vacation : ). Thank you. Quote

Overly sentimental and inexistent jazz content. Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted May 10, 2012 Report Posted May 10, 2012 Same here. The only Jazz in Paris release I regret purchasing. Overly sentimental and inexistent jazz content. I have far from all the CDs from that series (I have mainly concentrated on purchasing those by FRENCH artists) but I remember purchasing one other (with a street scene with a 30s-50s Paris bus on the cover IIRC) that featured accordion music that I found I could do quite well without (though I really like Gus Viseur etc.) so I gave it to a friend who had taken up accordion lessons.
