sidewinder
there's some silverware missing from the main dais - Will you help me polish it? What's the copy of 'That Devilin' Tune Vol 1' doing under the silver?
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez
oh, well i just got this really cool beach boys bootleg from the 1977 london cbs convention... so what was the deal with label conventions anyways, was it a showcase for new releases like a concert/dinner and stuff? Chuck Nessa
well, as long as Montavani kept his pants on - Montovani--that would be the EMI convention. Decca/London.
AllenLowe
but still, you haven't seen anything until you've watched Mitch Miller do the Dance of the Virgin with three goats and a chicken -
Teasing the Korean
Kostalanetz made a couple of decent records, though they were few and far between. These include "Lure of the Tropics" which uses theremin on a couple of cuts, and "Exotic Nights," for a "serious" album of eastern/pseudo eastern classical pieces. Son-of-a-Weizen
Columbia's annual conventions were held in a different city each year, at a cost--I was told--of a million dollars (not a lot of money today, but 35-40 years ago. They always included some of the label's top acts, as well as newly signed individuals and groups. As I recall, they were 3-day affairs, culminating in a banquet with orchestra and star entertainment. The one that I attended was up in NYC....you skipped that one? Must have been 1980 because The Romantics were one of the top acts.....Captain Sensible was also there. Yes, it was a 3-day deal.
