Have not read the link but microfunding has been going on for about 100 years.

Yeah , but loansharks never had websites

Now they just mail out credit cards. Yesterday they issued mortgages. Something new in the morning.

'Fraid so , since achieving prosperity through income growth and savings is about as fashionable these days as sock-garters....

It's like ArtistShare, right?

It appears to be a bit like ArtistShare although the number of bucks one would have to shell out are significantly less.

Looks like - so far - folks here don't think the idea has much merit. I thought it was interesting...

Makes sense to me, Bill.

Although it would seem to benefit mainly established performers who already have a fan base to get that 1000 investors.

I recall something like this in the early 80s - I went to a performance of Mike Westbrook's 'The Cortege' where they were taking subscribers, prior to going into the studio. I stumped up and several months later a 3CD set appeared in the post. The reissue still has my name on it as an...ahem..."patron of the Mike Westbrook Orchestra!" Makes me sound like the Archbishop of Salzburg!

Oh, I think it has great merit, actually, especially now that it seems like the "recording industry" is going all to hell. Niche music can actually thrive like this, I think, unless the $ needs and/or the # of people wanting to provide product outgrow what the potential audience(s) can provide for, in which case musicians are going to have to start selling amongst themselves, and....won't that be fun! :g

I think it's a great idea - although the attraction of funding in USD is going to continue to decline, which is also an issue for US presenters trying to bring musicians in from overseas. Our ducats just ain't worth what they used to be. That said, I'd be happy to seed some money for a recording to happen on the other side of the globe - I like the concept.
