Peter Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 Is it possible to burn the audio portion of a DVD to a CD that can be played in a regular CD player? If yes, how? Thanks. Quote
Aggie87 Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 I think Dan just asked the same question not too long ago. Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 And the DVD audio extractor (that Claude posted a link) works very well. I couldn't get the SUPER to download, which was a little weird annoying, but I'm OK for the remainder of the trial period with the audio extractor program. Quote
youdig Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 It is quite easy if you have a stand alone CD burner. Just use the audio outs from the DVD player. As far as using a computer, I could not tell ya. If you have something you need done ,send me a personal message and I can do it for ya. Quote

One potential problem is if you have a PAL encoded DVD - they'll play on PCs but you're screwed if you have a US DVD player. There is a fairly straightforward way to convert from PAL to the US standard but I am SOL anyway because I don't have a DVD burner installed. Quote
youdig Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 I was thinking that because Peter is from Milwaukee, WI, that PAL would not be an issue. Quote

True, I was responding to your general advice to use the audio outputs from the DVD player; if your DVD will only play on the PC, that's not going to work. Quote
medjuck Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 I use Wire Tap which captures whatever sounds are played through your computer, then just drop the results into iTunes. Worked great on the Van Morrison in Montreux Dvd. Because each song got its on chapter I did them one at a time and even got separate cuts for the cd. 1980 concert is wonderful btw. Quote
Christiern Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 Wire Tap? Is that the Bush program? Quote
Peter Posted March 13, 2008 Author Report Posted March 13, 2008 DVD Audio ripper seems like a nice program that does the job. However, the trial version will only rip half a file. I'm going to play around with it a bit more before I plunk down my $29. Quote
Claude Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 (edited) As I wrote in the other thread, DVD Audio Extractor will allow you to do a complete DVD conversion during the trial period. Edited March 13, 2008 by Claude Quote
Bluerein Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Is there also a program available for the Apple Mac? Quote
Bluerein Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Thanks but the version I'd download couldn't rip the audio from a DVD. Any other suggestions? Quote
medjuck Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Huh!?? As long as your DVD is playing through your computer Wire Tap will capture the sound. Quote

As long as your DVD is playing through your computer Wire Tap will capture the sound. Ah, how different people have different understandings of the same words. "Rip" in the current vernacular means running a program to convert one file to another. Medjuck's software records what the soundcard plays, so its in real time and therefore not "ripping". Its the same thing I used to do with Goldwave, recording the audio while the DVD plays. Quote
Claude Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Medjuck's software records what the soundcard plays, so its in real time and therefore not "ripping". I see the term "vinyl rip" being mentionned frequently, and if it's not done in real time I don't want to imagine what happens to those LPs Quote

Bluerein Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Thanks Dan for clearing that up. I mean this: I put a DVD in the DVD-Rom drive of my iMac and then a program will copy the audio portion of the DVD only to the hard drive for me to do whatever I like doing with it!! Again help would be appreciated!!! Quote
Claude Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 I know nothing about Mac, but maybe Cinematize does the trick: http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Video/Cinematize.shtml (the download is only a demo) Quote
