BillF Posted August 28, 2010 Author Report Posted August 28, 2010 (edited) Dipping into WKCR's 72 hour Lester and Bird fest. Now playing: Sounds like some Benedetti Parker and it's great! Edited August 28, 2010 by BillF Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Have to admire your dedication to the wireless, Bill! JRR was good tonight - the Don Byas/Slam Stewart track was great - never heard that. Ornette's Rambin' which is wonderful. And the Duke track at the end (Kinda Dukish/Rockin' in Rhythm) sent me straight to 'The Great Paris Concert'. Quote

Afraid I forgot JRR tonight - thrown by the BBC's retiming, doubtless to make way for more elevating classical fare! By the way, what is this "wireless"? I'm listening to a crystal set. Quote

danasgoodstuff Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 My friend, Tim Duroch from manyapples, has a nice avant-guarde show on KMHD 9-10pm Mondays. The show before him is good too. Quote
BillF Posted September 23, 2010 Author Report Posted September 23, 2010 "Jazz from Monterey: 1958, The Birth of a Festival" on Night Lights from WFIU Having heard this program, my overriding impression is of the amazing weath of talent in jazz at the time. But then, it was only a few months before 1959, which now seems to be generally recognized as an annus mirabilis for jazz. Quote
