Joe Ford?!?!?

I didn't catch that at first! But given that Joe was a music teacher in Buffalo then, it seems very likely he played piano too... Wild he ended up with McCoy if that is corredct. Curious about Gayle playing "harp" also, presumably more Alice Coltrane than Julio Finn (harmonica).

I saw Gayle play a solo concert maybe 6 years ago in Buffalo.  I only had one of his albums and didn't know much about him.  Maybe it was because he wasn't performing in character, but his spoken word was uncontroversial; I enjoyed the concert.

Imagine how much better he would play if he thought right.

Imagine if that was even relevant. Of course he can think whatever he wants to. I haven't suggested he can't nor do I intend to.

I don't agree with his political/social views at all (i.e., homophobia and anti-abortion) but I do think he is a fantastic saxophonist and musician. The "Streets" persona was not in full view on the occasions I saw him perform. It's unlikely he will perform or record again due to ongoing health issues but I could be wrong about that.

For what it's worth I interviewed him several years ago and found him to be a very kind man and an affable, intriguing conversationalist.
