Berkshire Record Outlet has re-stocked its jazz offerings, particularly videos. Nestled among the Andorran knock-offs (Definitive, Jazz Factory, Membran, Tim (?), et al), there are lots of CDs from Music and Arts and Leo. And the videos are from Idem and Eagle Rock. The Eagle Rock stuff includes a bunch of material that seems to come from the same Montreux concerts that gave us those red, white and Blue Pablo LPs bearing Norman Granz’s name, way back when. Nat Hentoff commentary on some.

If Eagle Rock and Idem are “Andorran-type” outfits, I rescind the recommendation to check it out.

CD prices are usually $2.99 – $5.99. Most of the videos seem to be $4.99- $7.99.

Advance search will let you see all ‘jazz’ offerings.

BRO is a reputable outfit. I don’t work or shill for them.

Remember, income taxes are due next month (U.S.), so don’t overdo it.

Eagle Rock Entertainment's "Live at Montreux" Series Gives Music Fans Worldwide a Chance to Catch Performances From Legendary Swiss Festival on TV, DVD and CD

Market Wire, July, 2005

As the 39th Annual Montreux Jazz Festival gets underway in scenic Montreux, Switzerland on Friday, July 1, preparations are being made to record the remarkable performances that routinely take place at this legendary music lover's event. This year's Festival will include Audioslave, Elvis Costello, Brian Wilson, Alice Cooper, and Crosby, Stills & Nash. Through an exclusive partnership with Montreux Sounds, Eagle Rock Entertainment is making highlights of the Festival's performances available for the first time for worldwide television broadcast as part of its "Live at Montreux" series.

Eagle Rock also has an exclusive agreement with Montreux Sounds for access to its Festival archives, including shows dating back to the 1960s. With permission from the artists and their record companies, many of these performances are being released on DVD and CD. Eagle Rock's "Live at Montreux" DVD/CD series debuted in November 2004 and has captured major artists at critical junctures of their careers (Bonnie Raitt), crowd favorites delivering classic sets (Earth Wind & Fire, Chic), and seminal artists that are no longer with us performing their greatest works (Johnny Cash, Marvin Gaye). Many performances are recorded in High Definition, and are available in stereo, 5.1 surround and DTS audio.

The Montreux Jazz Festival, which marks its 40th anniversary next year, is one of the most prestigious and largest European music festivals, with more than 200,000 attendees in 2004. Under the peerless direction of Claude Nobs, the Festival has had a reputation for capturing stellar performances from well-known and up-and-coming jazz, rock, blues, r&b, hip-hop and world music artists since 1967, in a breathtaking setting surrounded by the Alpine mountains and Lake Geneva.

2005 will be the first year that Eagle Rock will make highlights from every artist's performance available for worldwide television broadcast. "The Montreux Festival is a music lover's fantasy -- nearly every major act from every genre of music has played it -- there's truly something for everyone," said Geoff Kempin, Chief Operating Officer of Eagle Rock Entertainment. "Now, music fans all over the world can view these landmark performances by their favorite artists on television, and many of them will be available later for their DVD and CD collections."

Eagle Rock Entertainment is one of the leading independent sources for music audio and audio/visual programming, which it releases worldwide on DVD, CD and other formats, as well as through channels such as television and VOD. Eagle Rock's mission is to bring music fans high quality music audio and audio/ visual content from the broadest range of artists, with superior production, sound and high definition visuals, as well as other historically significant releases. Eagle Vision's extensive catalog covers every genre of music, and includes the "Classic Albums" documentary series, which tells the stories behind some of the greatest albums in rock history, and "Live at Montreux," which features performances from top artists at the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival. The company's record imprints include frontline artist label Eagle Records, and the hard rock/ heavy metal label Spitfire Records. Eagle Media releases a variety of comedy, television and fact-based programming. Eagle Vision, Eagle Records, Eagle Media, Eagle Eye Media and Spitfire are imprints of Eagle Rock Entertainment, Inc. in the U.S., which is a part of Eagle Rock Entertainment, Ltd. The company's North American headquarters are in New York City. Its corporate headquarters are in London, with offices in Toronto, Paris and Hamburg.

Thanks. Some nice looking offerings at five bucks a piece. I can't claim to have ordered any. I don't actually "do" TV/video. Embarassing, I suppose, but I've never even seen a DVD played.

thanks for the tip. i already had a broinc order in the works, so i added the Clark Terry, Eddie Davis, Mary Lou Williams, Benny Carter, Jazz at the Philharmonic, Dizzy Gillespie Sextet, Ray Bryant, and Tommy Flanagan dvds.

i second bebop's recommendation that people check out their leo and music & arts listings. i've purchased a number of these discs over the past couple of months, including titles by the fonda-stevens group, anthony braxton, dennis gonzalez, mat maneri, oliver lake, and others. heck, i even ordered one by that allen lowe(co) guy!
