trane_fanatic
How does the '98 "The Complete BOTC" disc stack up sonicwise against the '01 RVG? I have the '98 remaster and I know the RVG doesn't have the bonus Royal Roost live material, but...
WD45
I used to have the 1998 remaster with the extra cuts, but traded it on the RVG. Now I regret it. Why couldn't they have included the extra material on the damned RVG edition?
Rosco
The sound is far superior on the RVG. This was apparently the first time they it had been remastered from the original tapes; all previous CD versions were remastered from the second or third generation LP master. You can finally hear what the tuba and French horn were doing and I found it, personally, to be a revelation. That's just me, though. Of course, the airchecks are essential, too, so you really need both versions. Thanks a bunch, EMI.
Larry Kart
I have both. Can't get at them right now, but I recall that the RVG sounded much better because RVG was working with the recently discovered/found original metal parts (or would it have been tapes?) while all previous reissues had been working from secondary sources. Chuck Nessa
What they said.
trane_fanatic
Darn, I hate having duplicate material in my collection for some reason , but looks like I'll have to grab the RVG someday too. Yea, thanks EMI
Alexander
The RVG is VASTLY superior in terms of sound. The version with the airchecks is essential as well. I actually put both discs in to a two CD container. Whenever I listen to the RVG, I follow it up with the live material.
AndrewHill
Agree with all above. I have the JRVG (mini lp) and it is dramatically superior to both Capitol editions (the original and expanded cd issues).
medjuck
Me too. Kept them both.

Rooster_Ties
Always wondered if it was worth getting the RVG. The earlier issue with the air-checks is amazingly interesting, and I wouldn't be without it. Guess I gotta put another title on my want list. (And thanks, Alexander, for the idea of putting them both in a 2CD jewel box.)
street singer
Can't help but wonder how the Classic Records vinyl reissue stacks up to these in comparison... Any insight, anyone?
BFrank
Got 'em both, too.
JSngry
Wow, it really sucks that there's no way for us the consumer to put the RVG & the live material onto the same disc after buying both.
Spontooneous
Wow, it really sucks that there's no way for us the consumer to put the RVG & the live material onto the same disc after buying both. ...or to put the tracks back in session order, instead of the hideous, arbitrary sequence of the LP. JSngry
Yeah, itr really sucks that the technology does not exist for us to make the albums we buy play the way we want them to play.
Parkertown
The Classic Records 200g vinyl is tip-top too!
