The Magnificent Goldberg Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 A nearby Pret-a-Manger recently had some Jackie Mac on ( a tune off Vertigo IIRC) Whoahh !! Ah! I remember going into the Pret-a-manger in Victoria Street, London, some years ago and hearing "Hard times" by Fathead with Ray. I was late for the meeting in the office upstairs Well, some things are REALLY important... MG Quote

Travelling up to London for meetings would ALWAYS involve a little side trip from Westminster to Kings X, to visit Mole and, a nice walk up Euston Road, Sterns African music shop. Just as travelling to Brussels always involved a trip to Musicanova in the African quarter. Come on, this is what you pay taxes for! MG Quote
AndrewHill Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 (edited) I mentioned this in another thread about music played in restaurants, so I'll mention it again. I was at Ruby Tuesdays awhile ago and they were playing Kenny G and Miles' Milestones in alternating tracks. Now that was distracting! I'm bobbing my head ready to call the manager over to say, "what a great choice" than Kenny G comes on...WTF!!!??? Then, of course there's that Visa commercial using that Herbie Hancock song.... Teasing the Korean Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 I find so called "easy listening" versions of 60s and 70s pop/rock tunes far more interesting and subversive than the real thing. This is why I'll pick up any album with "Spinning Wheel" as long as it's not the dreaded original by BS&T. I think that aging and out-of-touch easy and listening and jazz artists did better things with this music than the unwashed hippies who originally created it. I think I'll go and spin some Hugo Montenegro now. Quote
