jimi089 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Greetings, Not sure if this is the correct section for an introduction post but.... Since I already broke board decorum by trying to sell worthless 78s in one of my first posts, I figure I should probably introduce myself. Thanks for all your help and understanding with that faux pas, by the way. Here's the facts: My name is Dan but my friends call me Danimal (hence the alias). I was born and raised in Maine amongst the moose and lobster. I've been in Chicago ever since, having done time at some University in Hyde Park that was equal parts education and mental torture. I came of age musically in Chicago and the AACM, and specifically the Velvet Lounge was responsible for broadening my musical horizons. I spend most of my disposable income on live music and recordings. Which is why I found this place, as you all seem to share my interests. I look forward to reading, learning, and contributing. Thanks for your hospitality! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Welcome! Glad you made it past the "welcoming committee"! Quote
Aggie87 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 If you change your name to JazzLobster you can stay. (We already have a JazzMoose, sorry!) Quote
7/4 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 He's got an excellent point there...we could use a JazzLobster. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Hi, and welcome to the board!! And no, I'm not JazzRooster. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Since I already broke board decorum by trying to sell worthless 78s in one of my first posts, I figure I should probably introduce myself. Thanks for all your help and understanding with that faux pas, by the way. Well, I'll take those Mingus 78s and the Paul Bley one too. Quote
jazzypaul Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Hey Danimal, one of my buddies (also a Dan, btw) also goes by Danimal. Anyway, fellow Chicagoan here. If you ever want to hang at a show, lemme know. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 I spend most of my disposable income on live music and recordings. Welcome ! We pretty well all fall into that category so you should be at home. Quote
AllenLowe Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 sorry, nothing doing until you've slept with every moderator and given us your lunch money - until than, welcome - and congrats on escaping Maine - Quote
MoGrubb Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 I like that handle, Danimal. Yo, welcome. Quote
Ron S Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Welcome! And I'd think twice about changing your handle to JazzLobster, by the way, 'cause this is what those guys had in mind: Quote
paul secor Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Welcome. Don't worry about how things started for you here. It's how things go from there that's important. As far as I'm concerned, someone who's reading George Lewis' book is someone whose posts are probably worth checking out. Quote
jimi089 Posted February 14, 2008 Author Report Posted February 14, 2008 Thanks for the warm welcome folks! Quote
robviti Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 greetings danimal! looks like we have another person to hang with at the chicago jazz festival and the after-fest sets at the velvet. Quote
paul secor Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 When I first looked at the title of this thread, I thought it was about the Proper record label. Was going to post: There ain't nothing proper about Proper. Glad it's about what it's about, instead. Quote
BERIGAN Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Dammit!!!! Here I am, thinking I can make some funny remark with a photo of a proper set, and you HAD to beat me to the punch!!! You as well Paul.....grrrr....too many members as it is.... Quote
BERIGAN Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Oh, and hello Dan, great to have a new members here, as always! Quote
