Uh....most of the music I listen to/like/whatever isn't particularly "innovative" ("personal", yes, but innovative? Hell how many real innovators have there been?), but I still find Wynton a bore.

Look man, if you dig him, cool. A lot of people do. But a lot of people don't, and believe it or not, for a lot of us, it all comes down to one thing - we just don't like the way he plays. period. All the other stuff makes for "good" (sic) debate fodder and such, but take all that away, and he still moves me and many others to tears of yawns.

Myself, I'd respect your like of him a lot more if you didn't try to find "ulterior motives" in those of us who have next to no use for him. That's the mindset of a cultist, and since I'm twice your age and lived through the ascendency/etc of Mr. Marsalis, I've come across more than a few of them, thank you very much. There's always some "other" reason why "we" don't like him, becuase hell, he really is the shit, ya' know? It's never the simple fact thay we just don't like the way he plays, period.

And please don't give me a lecture about how to listen to/appreciate/or otherwise encounter this music. You apparently know what you know - whatever that is, and iot seems to be a big bunch of records - but you don't know shit about what I know, so respect/recognize that or else kiss my motherfucking ass, you arrogant little boybitch.

If you want it to be like that, we can make it like that. If you wanna do right, we can do that too. Your call.

Again, I'm not going to defend Wynton and I don't care if somebody hates him or likes him. I could care less. I have my opinions just like you have yours.

I'm not disrespecting you JSngry, so get off your high horse and I know alot about jazz or else I wouldn't be here discussing it. You obviously never have seen any of my posts on AAJ, while many of them don't like what I have to say, they will tell you I do know alot, because I have sat down and done the research.

I wasn't lecturing anybody, I was merely making a logical statement that apparently upset you for whatever reason.

This leads me to a quote by the great Larry Coryell:

"There's two kinds of music: good and bad."[/size="6"]

That's Larry Coryell quoting Duke Ellington.

It's still a quote is it not? It's still Larry Coryell saying something, okay that's called a quote. Moving on....

So it's gonna be like that, eh?

Self-appointed "expert" with little or nothing to back it up other than "I've done the research" - which means nothing more"I've listened to a lot of records & read a bunch of books and articles and liner notes" - pontificates full of sound and fury, signifying nothing, always with an excuse when others gon't respond with agreement.

Hell, I don't think you're a Wynton fan, I think you are Wynton. Or at least a cousin. :g:g:g:g:g

So hey, M-bitch, educate me. Motherfucking ED-U-CATE me!

That deep down inside you know that I don't really have a horse (not even a pony!, and that even if I did, I wouldn't let it get high.

C'mon now, tell the truth... ;)

Like I mentioned before, Mr. High Horse, I don't care what people think about Wynton or anyone else for that matter, so it seems to me the only one with fury and anger is you.

Hey JSngry what's your opinion of Marian McPartland? I have recently gotten into her and she's a great pianist. She's the Renee Rosnes of her generation. She's like 90 something now....

I see on your profile that you like ambient jazz: do you like Tomasz Stanko? Triosk? Jan Garbarek? Terje Rypdal? Steve Tibbetts? Mark Isham? David Torn? Jim Black?

So why are you posting about him? And why if you're such a jazz buff are just about all your posts since arriving here on this thread and this thread alone? Don't care what people think about Wynton? Ri-i-i-i-i-i-ght.

I'm hardly a "troll,"

R-i-i-i-i-i-ght.

I want to honestly ask all of you this question why do you think Wynton's music/opinions about music are so controversial?

One reason: He attracts trolls like like horse shit attracts flies.

You obviously never have seen any of my posts on AAJ

A self-referencing cyber legend is born!

She's good enough to have been the Marian McPartland of her generation, that's what I think.

Did you ever hear the Piano Jazz show she & CT did together? He called her a "marvellous colorist" or some such, and then made her giggle like a virgin when they played duets. I wonder if she knew...

What do you think of Jimmy McPartland? I wonder what that bedroom was like...

You know, I wonder if maybe it's not the other way around - horses love the flies so they go where they know there will be flies, and then leave their shit there in order to ensure that they stick around for a while.

Do we have any experts here who can elaborate on this?

In all honesty, I haven't checked out Jimmy's work yet. I have just gotten into Marian McPartland a week ago. I was going through my grandmother's old record collection and I ran across some of her LPs. I've heard Marian for years, because of her program "Piano Jazz" on NPR, but I never checked her music out. She has a wonderful style. I'm listening to her album "Portrait Of Marian McPartland," which is out-of-print, but is available in a two-disc package on Concord Records called "Windows." I also found "Live At The Hickory House" which is a 2 LP concert on the Savoy label....great stuff.

I've now got most of her Concord releases on cd and am looking forward to getting them all. I got "Personal Choice" the other day and it's fantastic.

I'm with you! Someday hope to have half as much knowledge, experience and good grace as Sangry, Nessa, brownie, Christiern, Larry Kart, Litweiler and a host of others here.

I don't think coming in here swinging your dick around is really the way to go about joining a community. We all say stupid shit sometimes, and when I look back over posts from years back (or even worse, articles I've written from years back), sometimes I get a little green in the face. But hopefully, we learn from this experience.

We all enjoy this music, which is why we're here, but thinking about it - even when there's no music on the stereo - is what separates the experienced from the inexperienced. Having all of Wynton's usable contributions (and then some), or anyone else's for that matter, isn't necessarily the path to get you there, though it is part of it.

I liked Jimmy McPartland - years ago he had a show on Public Television with Art Hodes - nice relaxed sessions - fine if unspectacular player - he and Marian had a nice long term relationship; years after they were divorced she took care of him when he was fading out - sweet lady, fine pianist if a little stiff on some things -

Well I just started reading Kart's book, so in about a week I should know as much as Larry...
