The Magnificent Goldberg Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008  Perhaps there will be a similar statue of Comrade Wynton one day in front of the Lincoln Center!!! I've got that as my desktop background now. My grandfather knew him. MG
Guest Bill Barton Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 (edited) Perhaps there will be a similar statue of Comrade Wynton one day in front of the Lincoln Center!!! Now there's a concept! To be fair and egalitarian about it we should urge the inclusion of Stanley Crouch in any future statuary project. Hey, Ken Burns could film the whole thing start to finish... Now that would make for some stimulating cinema. Edited February 16, 2008 by Bill Barton
The Red Menace Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 To be fair and egalitarian about it we should urge the inclusion of Stanley Crouch I have not heard of this Stanley Crouch. Is he some sort of commissar???

Christiern Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 And that would be a simulated paper bag over his head--removed only for 5 hours on Halloween night.
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 You'd have to have a traffic cone on his outstretched fist all the time, however. MG
Fer Urbina Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008  Perhaps there will be a similar statue of Comrade Wynton one day in front of the Lincoln Center!!! Not similar, but a statue nevertheless. It's in Vitoria (Spain's Marciac, jazzwise). Possibly the only statue of a jazz musician in Spain... and they had to use Mr. Marsalis as a model... As they used to say ages ago, "Spain is different". F
Christiern Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 What a twisted, mean-spirited sense of humor they have!
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 What a twisted, mean-spirited sense of humor they have! Cheer up, it might have been Kenny G! MG
Guest bluenote82 Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) I personally am a big fan of Wynton's music, what he thinks as a musician never bothered me. I listen to the music, not a musician's opinions. Edited February 18, 2008 by bluenote82
Christiern Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 My comment would be the same. BTW, did you listen to my Ruby Walker audio file, yet?

Larry Kart Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 Where is you're from again, Bluenote82?
Christiern Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 This is the Wynton troll who was kicked off the AAJ board.
7/4 Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 France has Jerry Lewis, Spain has Wynton. The world is puzzled.
GregK Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 This is the Wynton troll who was kicked off the AAJ board. Thought so.
Guest bluenote82 Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 (edited) This is the Wynton troll who was kicked off the AAJ board. I'm not completely kicked off, I can log back in on Thursday. I'm hardly a "troll," but I do believe that the Wynton thread I created, which has 300 something posts now, is one of the best threads I ever created simply because it shows people's true colors. All the hatred they have for Wynton came out in that thread and I thought it was silly, because these people take themselves way too seriously. Am I welcomed here? I would like to start posting here if I could at least get some positive feedback from people. I have just recently become a Marsalis fan, but I have always listened to Bill Frisell, Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, Woody Shaw, Kenny Wheeler, Tomasz Stanko, Jan Garbarek, Jim Hall, Art Blakey, Shelly Manne, Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Ben Webster, Paul Desmond, Stan Getz, Michel Petrucciani, John Abercrombie, and these guys are some of favorties and biggest influences on me. Guest bluenote82 Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 (edited) Thanks guys! Hey, what do you all think about Enrico Rava? I've become fan of his in recent years. Albums like "The Words And The Days" and "Easy Living" are just beautiful albums. I'm just curious why Stanfano Bollani didn't play with Rava on "The Words And The Days"? Anybody know? Kevin Bresnahan Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Thanks guys! Start a thread about Rava and get it off of this thread. Keep it about Enrico Rava and never bring up WM's name in it and you might get a good thread going. The last thing we need right now is another WM thread.
Fer Urbina Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Hi Bluenote82, Yeah, Spain recognizes a great trumpeter and composer when they hear one. Not really. We don't have statues of Satchmo, Dizzy, Red Allen, Fats Navarro... (you get the idea). Wynton is good friends with the Vitoria Festival guys, which is fair enough, but I wouldn't take that as a musical accolade. F
