Swinging Swede Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 Another list. Here are the rules: 1) The artist or group must have recorded two or more albums, but only one for each label. 2) If the artist is a co-leader, his name must be mentioned first. (so Booker Little's recordings with Eric Dolphy, where Dolphy is mentioned first, don't count.) 3) For the 78 era, let's say only one session for each label. 4) If anyone gets confused, majors are allowed! Here are a few to start with: Booker Little one album each for United Artists, Time, Candid and Bethlehem Chuck Wayne Progressive, Savoy, VIK, Focus, Prestige, Choice and Statiras (if AMG is to be trusted) Lou McGarity Decca, Jubilee, Argo and Fat Cat's Jazz (I trust AMG again) Lawrence Brown Clef and Impulse Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 First, clarification - is New Jazz the same label as Prestige, Moodsville, Trusound etc? First contender I've thought of Grant Green Jr - Paddle Wheel, Venus, Jazzeteria MG Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 Gloria Coleman - Impulse, Mainstream Jimmy Coe - United (1 LP's worth in several sessions), Time (Indianapolis), Weeden International (Coe's name mentioned before Paul Weedon's) Bill Easley - Sunnyside, Milestone Ray Crawford - Candid, Dobre, United National Basil "Mannenberg" Coetzee - Kijima, Mountain Barney Rachabane - Jive Afrika, Jive Jazz (do these count as one or two?) Dave Hubbard - Sybarite Music, Mainstream (1 LP & 2 tracks on comps might have been same session) Bobby Forrester - Dobre, Lollipop Joe Carroll - Prestige, Vogue, Epic, Charlie Parker, Spotlite, Jazzmania (DAMN, there was a 45 as well as an LP for Charlie Paker!) The Magnificent Goldberg Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 OK, one more to add. Linda Ketana - Gallo Jazz, Gallo Urban I was looking her up on Google to find out whether her other album was also on Gallo Jazz, when I found a South African on-line CD (and other stuff) retailer! So, playing these silly discographical games isn't entirely a waste of time! MG Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 (edited) Alan Shorter - Verve, America. Charles Moffett - one for Savoy, one for his own CMR label. Marzette Watts - ESP, Savoy. Until you get to the Universal and Label Bleu years (1990s), I believe Michel Portal label-hopped with every release. Kees Hazevoet - Peace, KGB, Snipe. Marc Levin - Savoy (reissued as a BYG), Enja, and a self-released thing that I am entirely forgetting the name of. Sirone - Of The Cosmos, Serious Music (now reissued on Atavistic). Revolutionary Ensemble - ESP, India Navigation, RE: Recordings, Horizon, Enja/Inner City, Pi. Edited February 11, 2008 by clifford_thornton Quote
Swinging Swede Posted February 11, 2008 Author Report Posted February 11, 2008 First, clarification - is New Jazz the same label as Prestige, Moodsville, Trusound etc? You can count them as different labels if it helps coming up with new names. If nothing else we can have a special category for different subsidiaries (if that is the correct term in this case). Here are a few more names: Jack Millman Decca, Era & Liberty Bill Potts United Artists, Colpix & Jazz Crusade Vi Redd United Artists, Atco Quote

Right, that means Linda Kekana is in. Valerie Capers - Atlantic and I can't remember MG Quote

jazztrain Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 Bill Easley has more albums than the two you list below. In addition to those on Sunnyside and Milestone, he has albums for Evidence, 18th and Vine (two on that label, so he doesn't satisfy the criteria for this thread), and a recent release on American Showplace Music. Gloria Coleman - Impulse, Mainstream Jimmy Coe - United (1 LP's worth in several sessions), Time (Indianapolis), Weeden International (Coe's name mentioned before Paul Weedon's) Bill Easley - Sunnyside, Milestone Ray Crawford - Candid, Dobre, United National Basil "Mannenberg" Coetzee - Kijima, Mountain Barney Rachabane - Jive Afrika, Jive Jazz (do these count as one or two?)
