Harold_Z Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Great show! I was surprised by Prop Joe's demise. Very sudden and in all actuality, Prop Joe was a gangster, but the somewhat the brains of the whole operation. Are the Greeks going to deal with Marlowe now? Is Omar going to suceed in icing Marlowe? "They think we are Greeks." Quote
catesta Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 After watching the episode tonight, it sure seems that Marlo, Chris and Snoop are un-killable. Quote
jlhoots Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Definitely my current favorite television program. Quote
Tom Storer Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 I love it. As for the Greeks, when they allowed Marlo to pay them "insurance," they were tipping him that they wouldn't take Prop Joe's side against him--he promptly took advantage of this and eliminated Prop Joe. Remember as Marlo left the Greeks after that meeting, they looked at each other and said, with slight contempt, "He's not Prop Joe." I took that to mean that, raw and unsophisticated as he is (despite his viciousness), they believe they will be able to rip him off somehow. Quote

You can definitely see something going wrong with that newly formed partnership. Quote
Harold_Z Posted February 4, 2008 Author Report Posted February 4, 2008 I think I read somewhere not to expect this to wind up with all loose ends tied. I'm wondering if Marlo will be one of them, although I think Omar is going to get the better of him. It's a testament to the good writing of this show when you root for someone like Omar and feel badly over the demise of Prop Joe. Quote
Tom Storer Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 My speculation, based on no external evidence whatsoever, is that Marlo will somehow cross Chris and/or Snoop and that will be his downfall. Quote
catesta Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 Any thoughts on what happened to Omar? Quote
Harold_Z Posted February 5, 2008 Author Report Posted February 5, 2008 Any thoughts on what happened to Omar? I don't know, but that's an escape worthy of Houdini. Quote
catesta Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 (edited) Any thoughts on what happened to Omar? I don't know, but that's an escape worthy of Houdini. It was first time I saw Omar look scared. I realize Marlo is putting the blame on Omar for Prop Joe's death. But, it could be a loose end that does not get tied and that escape may be the last thing we see of the character. Edited February 5, 2008 by catesta Quote
MoGrubb Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 Somebody tell me how long the Wire has been on, please. [i'd like to start watching, unless catching up is hopeless.] Quote
relyles Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 Any thoughts on what happened to Omar? Thanks to HBO making episodes available on On Demand a week in advance of their airing on HBO, I do know what happened to Omar. I won't spoil it for everyone else though. Quote
relyles Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 Somebody tell me how long the Wire has been on, please. [i'd like to start watching, unless catching up is hopeless.] This is the fifth season. The first four seasons are all available on DVD and if you become obsessive about it like me (I have watched all of the seasons at least 2 or three times), you can get through them pretty quick. - Each season is only twleve episodes. Yeah, On Demand is great, I have it at home. However I am travelling and can't get it here. You can give me a hint, I promise not to tell. Quote

catesta Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 I can't wait to see what happens with the shit McNulty started. What's with Lester? He keeps saying 1 or 2 more weeks and they've got Marlo. Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode when they're in the Chinese restaurant and the owner keeps telling them "oh, about 5 or 10 minutes" every time they asked how much longer. Quote
catesta Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Oh shit!!!!! I guess the writing was on the wall, but still..... Quote
Tom Storer Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 So has episode 8 been shown already to everyone? Can we talk about it yet? Quote
Harold_Z Posted February 25, 2008 Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 Last night was episode 58. Just 59 and 60 remaining, with 59 available with ON DEMAND as of today. In 58 the major event was Omar's demise. Chris had it right - the writing was on the wall. Omar shouldn't have been out there exposed and in one of the scenes preceding his shooting a bunch of children run from Omar - except one. Omar ignores the remaining kid. I had a fleeting thought at that point that the kid was going to shoot Omar from behind. I need to review this to know if it's the same kid. There's a bit of black comedy in Omar's demise - and the show has been described by someone involved with it (I forget who) as a comedy. McNulty is getting in way to deep - I hope he comes out OK. The politicians - a bunch of slimeballs all. How true to life. Quote

The politicians - a bunch of slimeballs all. How true to life. Huh. I guess I missed the comedy in Omar's demise! And the kid who didn't run was also in the process of calmly setting a cat on fire when Omar walked past him. The new generation of empathy-free psychotic murderers... I'm also kind of worried about McNulty, especially after that heart-to-heart with Beadie where he seems remorseful, despairing, introspective... it's so out of character that he must be depressed. And guilty, drunken, armed, depressed, self-pitying, impulsive police are a high-risk kind of group. Quote

When the he didn't run I thought for sure he was going to call Chris and Snoop, I never thought he would be the one to pull the trigger. It looked as if Omar was already defeated by that look in his face while in the store. His actions were very "un-Omar" like. Looks like Lester may be using Clay Davis to get at Marlo now. Part of me thinks McNulty will come out of this okay with some major busts. However, the other part is thinking it will all come unraveled and he is in deep shit along with some of his friends. I'm really sad to see this series come to an end, this season has been phenomenal. Edited February 25, 2008 by catesta Quote
catesta Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 BTW, at the very end the dude in the medical examiners lab switches Omar's tag with the old white guy's. What was that all about? Quote
Tom Storer Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Actually, he noticed that the old white guy had Omar's tag, and he put it back. Absolutely no clue what that was about. Why was it switched to begin with? Weird. Presumably there will be some explanation. Quote
