felser Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 I have the 7 CD box set Blues, Bop and Boogie - The Complete 1940's Mercury Sessions available for sale or trade. This is the one in a box that looks like an old radio. The CD's are in mint condition, the outer box has some wear but is in good shape overall. Will trade for interesting jazz or rock items (box sets or combination of single CD's). PM or email to john.felser@verizon.net if interested. Quote
king ubu Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 wow, no replies yet? an amazing set, for sure! Quote
ghost of miles Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 Great set all right--Cootie Willliams, Helen Humes, Albert Ammons, Jay McShann, Eddie Cleanhead Vinson, Mary Lou Williams... beware of Amazon's listing for this, btw. Most of what's being offered is the single-CD "best-of" compilation. Quote
street singer Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Daaaamn... I sure wish I had the money to swing your way for this set. The recent Concord sale left quite a dent, though... Quote
Christiern Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 (edited) I had 2 copies of that set. The discs were stolen from one of them, but the radio box and booklet remain. Felser, here's a photo that might help you generate interest. Edited February 5, 2008 by Christiern Quote
Debra Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 I have this set and very much recommend it. First, it has about the coolest packaging of all time. Decades from now, it will be viewed as a highly desirable product of the "over the top CD box set packaging" era. The music includes the early, seminal recordings of Professor Longhair, and fine recordings by Jay McShann, Jimmy Witherspoon, Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, Helen Humes, Albert Ammons. There are sides which are more straightforward swing music, by Cootie Williams, Rex Stewart, Mary Lou Williams, and Buddy Rich. I have always found this to be a really fun set to listen to. Quote
felser Posted February 5, 2008 Author Report Posted February 5, 2008 I'm working on a sale with John. Sold to Lon, thx. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 Decades from now, it will be viewed as a highly desirable product of the "over the top CD box set packaging" era. Along with the JATP 40's billboard box and the Hampton 'Hairy Shirt' set ! Quote
