Joe G Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 I know there are two or three members active in music education. Just wondering what your sources are for ensemble charts. I started teaching guitar for the jazz program at MSU this term, and I've got three students. I figure for the studio class we could do a guitar ensemble (quartet with me sitting in), but I haven't been able to locate much material online beyond a couple of Mel Bay books that were recommended to me. I'll likely start with those but I'm looking for arrangements of maybe classic jazz tunes. Any leads will be appreciated! Quote

Joe G Posted February 2, 2008 Author Report Posted February 2, 2008 I spoke with Corey on the phone last night, and he did offer some suggestions (including the Mel Bay I mentioned). Also found a couple of Wes Montgomery charts on another website. Quote
Free For All Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 Time to hone your arranging chops Joe! Quote
MoGrubb Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 Hal Leonard stuff is popular with horn music educators. Jamey Aebersold would be a very good source. I've gotten a lot of stuff from him at jazzbooks.com Quote
DukeCity Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 You might also try contacting Fred Hamilton at North Texas. He leads a guitar ensemble there, and I'm sure has quite a book of charts. Don't know about their availabilty. Quote
randissimo Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 (edited) Thanks! STFU, FFA! Might also contact Phil Marsh.. ppmarsh1@comcast.net Phil has been writing arrangements and is still very interested in getting together a guitar ensemble.. Carlos Melendez.. tkjazz335@hotmail.com Carlos is directing the jazz band at Alma College and may have some charts and ideas. He is also still very interested in the guitar ensemble idea. Guest Bill Barton Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Let me put in an unsolicited plug for Daniel Barry if I might. His company distributes charts by Randy Brecker among others. Daniel Barry Publications Quote
