GA Russell Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 I never heard of this before. Sounds like something everyone should know. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22900119/ Quote
MoGrubb Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Me neither; sounds good. I wonder if the average ticket agent at the airport has heard of rule 240(?). Quote

Aggie87 Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Too bad that rule 240 is just a myth. 240 myth explained THe original article acknowledges that it isn't a law per se, but it's not a myth. You *CAN* get transferred to another airline/flight at the ticket agent's discretion. Of course, in today's deregulated environment, when airlines no longer have to post tariffs, the argument can be made that Rule 240 therefore no longer exists. Officially, that's true, but in practice a majority of airlines still honor the old rules, 240 among them. So, the real bottom line here is that while no one airline is legally mandated to follow Rule 240, many of them do — if they want to. And the real key is that you have to ask — not demand — and in many cases, you'll be accommodated. It sounds like your attitude going into the discussion determines alot of the outcome. Be pleasant, and the agent may work it out for you. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Too bad that rule 240 is just a myth. 240 myth explained Greenberg explains the history of the "rule" in his story. Guess you didn't read all of it. FWIW, back in the early '70s while attending the Univ of WI, Peter was the "campus rep" for A&M Records. A couple of years back I emailed him to say my A&M tee had developed holes and I needed another. He didn't respond. Quote

Brownian Motion Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 Too bad that rule 240 is just a myth. 240 myth explained It's not a myth. It used to be a traveler's right, until airline deregulation during the Carter administration. Now it's one of those quaint notions from the past, like the notion that high fidelity is superior to low fidelity, or that sewn bindings in books last longer than glued bindings. Quote
