Big Al Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Jacquet if you find it. What Jeff said I originally picke it up to hear more Ben Webster; he's only on two tracks. But the REST of this disc is fantastic! Nothing earth-shattering, just very very swinging!!!! Quote
Mark J Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 Thanks Mike! There is 9 minutes of hidden music if you pause and rewind Billy Bauer!!! I've had the CD 5 years and never heard it until today! Now a perfect album is even better! Quote
Daniel Andresen Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 I don't get the Bauer trick, I tried rewinding, but I get nothing new (except the begining of track 1). Quote
Randy Twizzle Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 I heard a couple of takes of "Lover Come Back to Me" and then strangely enough "Paul is Dead." Quote
sidewinder Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 Nope, sounds like just 'Its a Blue World' to me... Quote
Randy Twizzle Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 (edited) "It's a Blue World" is track 1, you have to scan past that toget to Lover Come Back. On my player its shows as track 1 with an index of 0 Edited April 12, 2005 by Randy Twizzle Quote
sidewinder Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 Is there a secret combination code as well? . Have given up on this one.. Quote
Hank Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 Wow, I can't believe this. I found the extra hidden nine minutes. A pain in the ass but I'm glad it's there. Hit play on the first track then rewind. I just imported this into my Mac the other day. Tried it again now but unfortunately I can't access the hidden tracks on my computer. I might have to go searching through the rest of my Verve Elites for more hidden stuff. Is Jimmy Hoffa in there? Quote
Hank Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 For those of you with the Billy Bauer - start playing track 1, then hold down rewind. Mike Mike, what led you to find this? Quote
Clunky Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 I have almost all the CDs in this series (the few I don't have - Lalo, Alan Shorter, Dinah Washington, that third stream Modern Jazz Society - I chose not to pick up when they were available and still have no interest Modern Jazz Society is excellent whether it'sc alled Third stream or not highly recommended if you find it. C'mon it's got Lucky Thompson on it ..... Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 I wish I could say that I discovered this through my own curiosity and ingenuity, but alas, I was simply told by a friend who was working at Verve at the time. Subsequently there was an article published in the IAJRC Journal that noted this. It is definitely worth checking other Verve issues from around this time period. I think I checked all the Elites and the others don't have hidden material, but there are at least three "regular" Verve CDs that do. I won't mention names just yet. Mike Quote

bertrand Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 (edited) What is the point of these hidden tracks? Bertrand. Edited April 12, 2005 by bertrand Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 Don't know if this was slipping one over on the executives who might not have approved of all that stuff (various breakdowns, etc.). Were royalties paid? Don't know. The hidden track thing is ubiquitous in the rock/pop world. www.hiddensongs.com Mike Quote
Hank Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 ... there are at least three "regular" Verve CDs that do. I won't mention names just yet. Don't tell me. Looks like I'll be up all night... Quote
sidewinder Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 I think I checked all the Elites and the others don't have hidden material... Thank goodness, otherwise I would be wasting the whole of the coming weekend playing with the 'rewind' button.. Quote
Bluerein Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 mike: please give us a hint.... are they mastersound editions, by requests or indeed "regular" verve's. Quote
couw Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 there's an unlisted track 16 on Dinah Washington's What A Diff'rence a Day Makes. Not very well hidden though. Quote
Bluerein Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 Couw: what's this extra Track called? On the SACD it's not there (of course). Quote
couw Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 no title, it's just some studio chatter. Quote
Bluerein Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 listened to it in the store I work and indeed nothing to miss..... Michael F: are you going to post the other hidden track Vere's???? Quote
fent99 Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 I have a feeling I remeber hearing about a hidden track on the Getz east coast 3 cd set. Don't have that though... Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 One is being used currently as an avatar by a member on this board. And remember that "Verve" owned more than just "Verve" at that time - c. 1999, I think. I had not heard about the Getz - don't know if that's true. Mike Quote

Hank Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Thanks, Paul. Mental Cruelty is some excellent stuff! I'm listening to it right now. I think I like almost anything that Barney Wilen appears on. Now, who's got the "Verve" avatar that Mike alludes to? Quote
