Christiern Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 She P or She PP? I grew up thinking the two were basically the same! As a child, I used to PP—as an adult, I started to P. Does having Archie PP on the cover and P on the label bother you? Glad you got your body fluid shorthand together. What do you think of Archie Shepp's music? Were you grooving along to Attica Blues in 1972? No, buta couple of years earlier.... Quote

I doubt Shepp's opinion would have changed re- the White musicians he brings up, Blood Sweat and Tears, Janis Joplin, because what he is saying is true. The truth doesn't change. I would be more interested in hearing him revisit his desires for a Black music academy elevated from the clubs, and how that vision correlated to the reality of the Lincoln Centre organisation and other such achievements. I wonder what the Downbeat employee is up to these days. I wish you didn't edit her contributions out of the entirety of the interview. Quote
Christiern Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 I'm glad that you liked the interview. The Down Beat employee's "contributions" were akin to coughs and sneezes during a Segovia performance. I have no idea what became of her, neither does Dan Morgenstern, but we hope she's alive and well. Quote

Swinging Swede Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 Are you talking about this label? I have the Shepp and a Dexter Gordon and a Chet Baker on the label...as well as some others I can't remember. I assume that's the label. Maybe this is a better link. Yes, the first link also includes releases from the other Jazz Hour label, which specialized in unissued live big band recordings from the Swing era (mostly). No relation whatsoever between those labels, although they frequently get confused in eBay listings etc. The Jazz Hour With label always seemed like a shoddy bootleg label to me, drawing from various other sources.
