Johnny E Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 I was wondering if we could start a thread that simply lists summertime European Jazz Festivals and when they take place. There are so many, it might be good to have one thread that lists them and possible links to them. Thanks Ya'll, -john Quote

tonym Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Great idea Johnny! However as I went to add the link to Appleby Jazz Fest (which isn't far from me) I watched the page load.... shame..... So Brecon, and the smaller Lichfield, Staffs. Glasgow. Cheltenham, earlier in the year. Quote
BillF Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 (edited) The 2007 Wigan International Jazz Festival was held on 13-22 July. The dates for the 2008 festival aren't yet advertised, but it will be in July. Edited January 12, 2008 by BillF Quote

Alexander Hawkins Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 This is quite a useful site: http://jazzfests.net/dates/ N.B. these festivals often 'hunt in packs' - have hook-ups with agents, so bands can tour them. Quote
sidewinder Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Cheltenham, earlier in the year. Recommended - as is the Bath International Festival about a month later. Quote
ASNL77 Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 (edited) I strongly recommend the Marciac festival in France that usually takes place in the first two weeks of August. http://www.jazzinmarciac.com/ Edited January 11, 2008 by ASNL77 Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Cheltenham (early May; international artists with a good UK showing, mix of big box office names and the highly respected, old favourites and the up and coming) and Bath (late May - eclectic with a continental European focus [though the Mingus Big Band headlined last year on one night, Andrew Hill played a few years before]) are regulars for me too. Sadly Appleby - a largely British mainstream affair (though with great Italians last year) + Evan Parker's Freezone (you know the records!) - isn't happening in 2008. Vital funding got withdrawn last year leaving a bit of a crisis. The one I keep meaning to go to is Sienna - late July/early August. It's tied in with a big summer school and has an Italian jazz focus. Quote
