wolff Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 I'm feeling left out. They can be originals, reissues, Japanese, etc.. I have 200. I'm half way there. For the last year or two I've only been trying to collect originals. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 None. Gotta a couple o' Pablos, a handful of Columbias, and a few odds and ends, but no Blue Note on vinyl. And you feel left out? Quote
kenny weir Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 I'm fairly sure I have no BN LPs as I only have about 20 LPs and none of them are jazz. Unless Bob Wills qualifies. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 Sorry; Bob Wills only qualifies as INCREDIBLE! Although I must admit, my wife gets tired of me singing "Roly Poly" to our cat who fattens up every winter... Quote
Jim R Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 15-20 years ago, I had in the hundreds- a mix of originals, Japanese reissues, and every variation in between. Now I have about 30, which still span from an original 10" LP to some orig 12", to Japanese reissues. I still have several hundred non-Blue Notes, though. Quote
DrJ Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 (edited) Only a few - Lou Donaldson SAY IT LOUD!, Blue Mitchell COLLISION IN BLACK, an 80's DMM reissue of Leo Parker ROLLIN' WITH LEO...odds and ends, really. Getting into jazz listening in just the past decade or so, coincident with the jazz reissue boom, I haven't felt the need to look for the vinyl except when no CD alternative exists. 9/19: I'm editing this post to add two more (prized one) - Booker Ervin BACK TO THE GIG (which I picked up for the still unreleased on CD session w/Woody Shaw) and the McCoy Tyner two-fer from the same era, also for the one still unreleased on CD session. sidewinder Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 (edited) Got several hundred of them - my starting point was the Marconi DMMs when they came out but over the past few years its Kings, Toshibas and originals. Up on the deck as I write is Freddie Roach 'Brown Sugar' on deepgroove. Lovely ! Just can't beat those 63rd St and NYC original pressings. I like the Conn 180g reissues too. DrJ - that DMM or 'Rollin With Leo' is one of my faves. Sounds pretty good for a DMM. Their version of 'Let Me Tell You Bout It' sounds good too. If in the happy event you find an original, you can always frame the DMM covers. Edited September 19, 2003 by sidewinder Quote
king ubu Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 sidewinder said: I like the Conn 180g reissues too. So do I. I don't have many LPs, mostly stuff that was not on CD (or not available here) when I picked up the LPs. The Conns I have on LP (missed the CD release of those, then found them on LP): - Griffin, Congregation (This one SOUNDS soooo goood!!) - Hubbard, Ready for Freddie - Gilmore/Jordan, Blowing In - Walter Davis, Davis Cup - Don Cherry, Symphony For Improvisers then one of those brown double LPs: the Chambers/Coltrane one. Will get obsolete with the upcoming Select. Very nice stuff, though! and the original US LP of Stanley Turrentine's "Comin' Your Way". and the original (prob. first pressing) of Blakey's "Free For All", though in terrible condition. Maybe I forgot some. ubu Quote
sidewinder Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 The 180g Conn of 'Basra' is the one to die for. 'Etcetera' too .... Quote
Peter Johnson Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 About 300 or so; even Dodo! Big gaps in the 1500 series; I'm trying for them all! Quote
vibes Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 Only one: Tyrone Washington - Natural Essence I had been looking for this one on eBay for a long time, so when I saw it with a low buy it now, I jumped on it. I was pretty pissed when I discovered it was an LP. I've never had (and probably never will have) a turntable. It's a Japanese pressing, never opened. If someone wants it, I'll sell it for $17 postpaid to a US address. Quote
JohnS Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 My Blue Note database lists 272 lps at present (multiple sets count as one) from the classic period. I've reduced my lps considerably over the last couple of years. I couldn't see a lot of point in having half the collection duplicated on cd. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 (edited) Maybe 5 or 6, definitely less than 10. Just some things I've stumbled on over the years, or were given by friends. I don't have a working turntable (and haven't for about 10 years), so my record (LP) collection is pretty small, maybe 100 to 125 records total. Edited September 19, 2003 by Rooster_Ties Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 None at all. I gave up my old stereo system years ago. I no longer own a turntable. Quote
