I've gotten used to not having any cat around anymore... but there's still one living in the house (a double-house, with four big and one tiny flat each), and now that ours is gone, that other one sometimes spends whole days in our flat.

Got a new cat now! Three months old, picked it up from five young ones on the countryside yesterday - so happy!

She already knows where to do her little business and has taken long discovery trips all through our appartment... how long should we keep her inside before we go out in the garden with her for the first time? It's the first time I've gotten such a young little one, the previous ones we adopted or my girlfriend had them already before we met. A little pic might follow... I took one with flash last night and it didn't shy her away, after three hours in our appartment - she seems to like it so far, though of course she's crying now and then, missing her four siblings and her mother (who attacked me on my attempt to grab a second one... we might or might not go back in a week to pick a second one... this one's black with some white on chest, legs and face, but the other one we'd have gotten was an all-black, very shy male one who cried like mad when I finally had him in my hands, after an hour or so of trying to lure him out from hiding... felt like some animal mis-treater for a few minutes...)

I feel as though I have got a really good deal on the cat front. They make me sneeze like hell so can never keep one (also they are allergic to vinyl I believe ). The 2 very friendly neighbours cats visit regularly, 'help' with the gardening and hang out on my lawns to sunbathe - a perfect situation !

I had two cats that were sisters from the same litter. It ended up working out really well, so if the male takes a shine to you on the next visit, I would encourage you to take him home. Good luck. The cat looks very cute.

I hope to bring cats back into my life, but have to wait until my children are a bit olden (and test them for allergies).

Y'know, I'm not a fan of cats. We even had one, and I was not too sorry to see it go. Furthermore, my in-laws' cat is an absolute psychopath and yet.... I like this one. She hates everyone, comes and goes as she pleases, refuses to be petted (sorta like having a teenage daughter in the house). If she's in the house, I'll find her and start playing with her; I'll playfully bop her on the face (just lightly, not seriously smacking) and she'll start swipin' at me and tryin' to bite my hands. There's been a couple of times I've come away with a couple of gashes on my hands & arms, but it's all fun.

When that cat goes, it's gonna be a sad day.

I grew up around dogs (and I still like dogs as well - I never quite got that cat-owners vs. dog-owners fights, am I the only person who likes both?) but cats are really cool just because you can never fully domesticise them.

Anyway, it's really great to have a new one again, and this is the first I'll see grow up from the beginning... I couldn't wait to get home after work yesterday!

You beat me, Flurin! I'm stuck in a position in which I can't have a cat right now, but I'm sure there's one in my future. There's nothing quite like learning the personality of a new cat (especially if they already know where to do their business!) I envy you, but I'll be there again soon.

I know what you mean about cats having their own ideas - I have a rabbit who lives indoors with me. She is a very independent creature! (They can be wonderful house pets if spayed/neutered; are very clean and can be easily trained to use a litter box, too.)
