7/4 Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Time for Rick to go to a meeting. He has to admit he's powerless over food — that his live has become unmanageable. Quote
Tim McG Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 (edited) Never been banned....but I was asked to leave once. Back when I didn't have two nickels to rub together, I used to arrive early then leave late at a local Mongolian BBQ-all you can eat establishment. Edited January 3, 2008 by GoodSpeak Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 When we lived in Madison I had a customer/friend well over the 300 lb mark. He kept after me to go to an "all you can eat" buffet on the outskirts of town. After about a year I gave in so Ann and I went with him. As we entered, the hostess said "Hello Alan" and he announced to us "They are tricky here - they have the bread and potatoes first - they are cheap and fill you up. Wait 'til you get to the meat and fill your plate. He piled that stuff up about 5 inches high and after we were done eating we had to wait about half an hour for him to finish. Then he went to the dessert table. Nice guy, might be dead now. Quote
GA Russell Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I go to the Golden Corral once a week and load up on vegetables. Even without any meat, it's cheap. My New Year's resolution is to improve my diet with more fruits and vegetables. I've read that bananas are good for you. My aunt the RN hounds me to eat more beets. Quote
paul secor Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I have a friend who's not large or overweight, but who can pack it in. He tells the story of going to a buffet, loading up his plate, eating that, and going back for seconds and thirds. At that point, a Sopranos-type put a heavy hand on his shoulder and advised him to "Save some food for the rest of the patrons." My friend took the hint. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 After reading the article, I imagine the restaurant's story is true, about them loading up on the expensive items. You don't get too far running a restaurant in this state if you discriminate against fat people... Quote

The owner's wife told me to go....she stood about 4' 10" and told me in broken English, "You go now !" I figured I could take her, but the cooks were staring at me, too. They were a bit larger than she was. Think middle linebacker. Back then I was only eating one meal a day and at 6' 2" I could hide behind flagpoles. I left. Edited January 3, 2008 by GoodSpeak Quote
James Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 During high school I was banned from a buffet............but it was a guilt by association scenario. My best friend (massive guy, no fat) and another guy his size went in with me one evening, and they decided to compete to see who could eat the most fried fish filets. Big chunks of fish though they were, my buddy won by knocking down around 25, IIRC. We didn't get any flack on that occasion, but my friend is hard to forget -- and the next time we arrived we were turned away at the entryway. Quote
Debra Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 It is interesting that someone mentioned Madison. Did you mean Madison, Wisconsin? I visited my brother there in the 1970s and went with him and a large group of the other men on his dorm floor to an all you can eat fish fry dinner at Crandall's. I don't know why I remember the name. It was a big mistake to go with a group of men from a dorm. I often wondered during the meal if mankind had evolved much from its prehistoric origins. Most of the men (term used loosely) ate at least 25 fried fish. Several men ate so many that they could not have been hungry any more. The owner and his wife came out and looked at our table with disgust. They switched us to some poor quality fish, which did not taste very good. I was sure that none of us would have been welcome at Crandall's after that. Nothing needed to be said. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 You'd think that restaurant owners would understand that there is a certain segment of the population that considers "ALL YOU CAN EAT" to be a personal challenge... Quote
