king ubu Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I did an earlier thread on this here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=36942 no opinion from me, as I haven't bought any of those sets so far (except for the great one by Klaus Doldinger) Quote
king ubu Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Well, there's not much on the Shearing box there... except that one sir whom we'd expect to like it anyway mentioned he bought it... I'd still be interested to read a little more about it! Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 I picked this set up yesterday, I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet but will gladly post a report if you guys are still interested. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 I've had this since it came out - not for Shearing (who I find a bit to bright and breezy for my taste) but for Louis Stewart. The first three discs are wonderful - a mixture of standards and tunes that were contemporary at the time (e.g. C. Corea things). Disc 4 is in a + orchestration setting. Not so fond of that one. Teasing the Korean Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Have they reissued the groovy MPS session with latin percussion where they do "The World is a Ghetto?" That is on heavy rotation when I DJ. Quote
B. Goren. Posted November 28, 2008 Author Report Posted November 28, 2008 I picked this set up yesterday, I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet but will gladly post a report if you guys are still interested. Cliff, I'm interested. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 (edited) B. Goren, I have gone through the first two discs and was very impressed. Like Bev, I got it mainly for Louis Stewart but I had not heard any Shearing before and after listening to this I don't know why people would be "anti" Shearing. It really is a trio in the classic sense and everyone gets their share of solo space, its not all Shearing, in fact Louis Stewart seems to start off alot of the tunes. I know its a MPS edition and all that but I don't think I've ever heard a guitar sound as nice before. Edited November 29, 2008 by Cliff Englewood Quote
