martinfoyle Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 http://www.elviscostello.info/articles/s/s...ia.030617a.html If any of you jazz afficianados have heard Elvis Costello's new album, North, yet, I'd be curious to know your impressions. Personally, I like it a lot, it's a real grower. The playing all round is appears understated at first, but its simplicity hides all kinds of nuances. It certainly is causing a huge division amongst his fans. one either gets it, like me, or ahtes it. Quote
Big Al Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 This ouoghta be interesting. He's shown in the past that he can handle the standards very nicely. Anyhow, I don't understand why his fans would hate it: I thought surprising people and doing the unexpected were part of his charm to begin with. Quote
Jazzdog Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 Anyhow, I don't understand why his fans would hate it: I thought surprising people and doing the unexpected were part of his charm to begin with. I hate it!! No, seriously, I will know more when and if I get a promo copy in my hands before next Tuesdays release date! Quote
martinfoyle Posted October 28, 2003 Author Report Posted October 28, 2003 So, have any of you jazzheads had the time to evaluate this fine album? As a Elvis Costello fan I'd be curious to read your impressions. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted October 28, 2003 Report Posted October 28, 2003 There was quite a bit of discussion in another Elvis thread. Mike Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 This sounds like a love poem to Diana Krall...who knows...I've been playing "When Did I Stop Dreaming?" Always thought Elvis did a credible version of Mingus' tune "Weird Nightmare" on the Hal Wilner Mingus record. Fitz, couldn't find the other thread: could you point me in the right direction? Quote
