If any of you jazz afficianados have heard Elvis Costello's new album, North, yet, I'd be curious to know your impressions. Personally, I like it a lot, it's a real grower. The playing all round is appears understated at first, but its simplicity hides all kinds of nuances. It certainly is causing a huge division amongst his fans. one either gets it, like me, or ahtes it.

This ouoghta be interesting. He's shown in the past that he can handle the standards very nicely. Anyhow, I don't understand why his fans would hate it: I thought surprising people and doing the unexpected were part of his charm to begin with.

This sounds like a love poem to Diana Krall...who knows...I've been playing "When Did I Stop Dreaming?" Always thought Elvis did a credible version of Mingus' tune "Weird Nightmare" on the Hal Wilner Mingus record. Fitz, couldn't find the other thread: could you point me in the right direction?
