BillF Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 Almost forgot - Little Egypt - the Leiber-Stoller tune done by The Coasters. Road to Morocco is just about OK since Bing was slightly a bit jazzy - but we ARE looking for tunes at least done by jazz bands (What about "Ahab the Arab"?) Little Niles - Randy Weston MG Little Niles was Randy Weston's son. It's nothing to do with the river! Quote

seeline Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 (edited) And where, precisely, is "The land of Oo-blah-dee"? Certainly not in the Americas or Europe. MG Have you ever heard the lyrics? IIRC, it's a "Through the Looking Glass" - or maybe more of a sci-fi- kind of place... Also, I think - would have to check to be sure - that Randy Weston's "Little Niles" is about his son, not the river. Best! Edited January 19, 2008 by seeline Quote

MG Have you ever heard the lyrics? IIRC, it's a "Through the Looking Glass" - or maybe more of a sci-fi- kind of place... I have indeed - Joe Carroll's version with Grant Green and Conrad Lester on Charlie Parker records. I think it may be how you hear it. I can see what you mean, but I've always thought of the song in terms of 1001 Arabian Nights. And welcome Seeline! MG Quote
