JETman Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Yeah, being a New Yawka has gotten me used to many things in life, not the least of which is the consistent one-day turnaround on Mosaic deliveries from right next door Quote
gmonahan Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Yeah, being a New Yawka has gotten me used to many things in life, not the least of which is the consistent one-day turnaround on Mosaic deliveries from right next door That *would* be nice! I'm looking forward to reports on the Young/Basie set from those lucky enough to have preordered it! Quote
gslade Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Did'nt pre order but,----- I just mugged one of the single cell broods and hey there is enough so I took the plunge It should be here by the time I get back from Folsom ye--ha! Quote
HolyStitt Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Is anyone that pre-ordered still waiting on their set? I haven't seen anything yet, so I called Mosaic and they said it shipped the 18th. Most of the time I wouldn't notice or care but I am excited about this set and I have never had an order from Mosaic take more then a few days. Quote

I haven't seen anything yet, so I called Mosaic and they said it shipped the 18th. Most of the time I wouldn't notice or care but I am excited about this set and I have never had an order from Mosaic take more then a few days. That is an unusually long time. I've never had anything but fast service from Mosaic. Is there a tracking number? (DHL, right?) Lester will leap in soon, I'm sure! Quote
jazzbo Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Hopefully you'll have yours today! Mine arrived unusually. . . fast. An EXCELLENT set. Quote
medjuck Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 I didn't pre-order but as soon as I read here that it as available did so. It arrived yesterday, so there's something wrong if someone who did pre-order hasn't gotten theirs yet. And I'm a long way from the East Coast. Quote
gslade Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Yep, Mine was on the doorstep yesterday. I ripped the set last night Had to call Mosaic as my Booklet was munched Their usual great customer service assured me one to be shipped out immediately. Listened to the First disc This morning while walking the dog! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Listened to the First disc This morning while walking the dog! Is that code? Quote
gslade Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 No code just the Facts, nothing but the Facts and yes the Press was on Hand. The Paparazzi are relentless. Quote
HolyStitt Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Hopefully you'll have yours today! Mine arrived unusually. . . fast. An EXCELLENT set. It was sitting by the back porch when I arrived home this afternoon. The surprising thing is it had a post mark of the 26th. It looks like they didn't charge me shipping. When I called Mosaic about it they apologized for the delay, said they didn't know what caused it, and they refunded the shipping. As usual they handled everything the right way. I might have to wait until at least Sunday to listen to the music because I am kind of on a groove with the Django on the Radio JSP set that arrived yesterday. Quote
paul secor Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Ordered yesterday, and it arrived about ten minutes ago. Looking forward to listening. I know - what am I waiting for? Quote
Free For All Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 It was on my doorstep when I came home today. Always a special day when there's a Mosaic waiting for you when you come home. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 It was on my doorstep when I came home today. Always a special day when there's a Mosaic waiting for you when you come home. And no one stole it? Must be a big problem for Mosaic buyers if there's no one at home in the day. MG Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 As usual with these threads, now that the box is available, there is very little discussion on the content. How are the notes, sound quality etc, etc???? Quote
jazzbo Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 Notes seem excellent. . . I haven't sat down and read them yet, but the booklet is full of pictures, a high percentage of which I've never seen before! It's a 24 page booklet, which is pretty hefty for a four cd set. The music sounds wonderful. The remastering is great and it's nice to have sessions I have spread over probably near a dozen cds "homogenized" in sound and great sound at that. Quote
JSngry Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 The sound doesn't make his horn sound vertical, does it? Quote
Shawn Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 The sound doesn't make his horn sound vertical, does it? No, they used special "Diagonal Noise Reduction" to preserve the proper sax alignment. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 Cheers Jazzbo, I'm looking forward to this one. Have you had a chance to check out the alt. takes??? Quote
John L Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 I'l be united with my set exactly one week from now. I can't wait! Quote
ghost of miles Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 Notes seem excellent. . Schoenberg did the notes, and he is incredibly thorough, as always...sometimes the track has ended before I've finished reading his description of it. The sound is quite good, I'd agree, but...there's something a little less present or crisp about it than some of the other Mosaic remasterings from this era that I've heard in the past few years. Could simply be me, could be the source material to begin with. Certainly better than the ESSENTIAL Columbia cds. Quote
jazzbo Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 I've listened to the whole set twice, though I haven't paid special attention to any of the "unreleased" alternates. . . . Nothing jumped out and said "Time is standing still this is earth-shatteringly different"! (But the Diagonal Noise Reduction could be to blame). Quote
medjuck Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 I agree. Prez's solo on the Shoe Shine alternate is pretty incredible but even here I think they chose the right take to release. Quote
JSngry Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 That's Diagonal Noise Reduction ® After all, we must render unto Caesar what is Caesar's. Quote
