bluesbro Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Deep discount (under the amazon moniker deep_discount_dvd_cd) is selling the 1941 Complete Standard Transcriptions for 3 bucks. This is a great 2 CD with the Blanton Webster band recording for the Standard Transcription Library in Hollywood. Great music, if just to hear alternate versions of the RCA classics, plus many other rare gems. I ordered mine and it arrived yesterday, new and sealed. Looks like they have more, so if you dont have this, definitely pick it up while it lasts: Ellington Transcriptions Quote
BruceH Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Already got it, but I'm sure I must have payed a lot more than three bucks! Great Ellington comp and a great price!! Thanks for telling us, bro. Don't taze me. Quote
ghost of miles Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Three bucks?! If anybody is even remotely an Ellington fan and doesn't have this already, I say unto you-- GO!!! GO!!! GO!!! :excited: Quote
DukeCity Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Just ordered. Thanks for the heads-up! Quote
Swinging Swede Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 I think 16 of the 29 tracks were not recorded commercially by Ellington, so that's a big reason in itself to get it. And it's by the Blanton-Webster band. Nuff said. 26 of the 29 tracks were previously out on a Vintage Jazz Classics single CD. The Soundies set is a double CD with all the tracks, but I must say that the sound is very different on the two releases. I couldn't decide which one I preferred though. Quote
Guest Bill Barton Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Thanks for the heads-up on this! One can never have "too much" of that Blanton-Webster edition of the orchestra. Quote
EKE BBB Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Already got it, but I'm sure I must have payed a lot more than three bucks! Great Ellington comp and a great price!! Thanks for telling us, bro. Don't taze me. I definitely paid a lot more than three bucks! Quote
EKE BBB Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 But it was worth every penny. Yep!!! Quote
Ron S Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 They've now raised the price to $9.47. Glad I got my order in yesterday--thanks to this thread--when the price was still in the $3 range. Of course, $9.47 for a 2-disc set like this one ain't too bad, either. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 For me the reason for getting this set is the recording of Raincheck. The RCA version, recorded slightly earlier, has Strays on piano and Duke kicks ass on the transcription. Quote
Guest Bill Barton Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 Thanks again for hipping us to this, bluesbro, I just received my shipment confirmation e-mail with the total price coming to $5.96! A great deal!!!!! Quote

Ron S Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 I just HATE it when I end up paying a buck more than I had to. Really ruins my year. Quote
