WD45 Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 I made a cover for the Tal Farlow Fuerst Set and Second Set albums I got from the free trial of emusic... Quote
WD45 Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 Same for the Kenny Dorham Memorial album on Xanadu... Quote
WD45 Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 Not that HatHut needs the design help, but I did this one for an Ellery Eskelin/Han Bennink album... Quote
WD45 Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 Finally, a John Fahey comp I made for my sister... Quote
WD45 Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 a familiar cassandra for the cassandranite cover Quote
mikeweil Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 That Dolphy cover is my favourite so far (if it only had happened ......)! The Cassanda-nite is nice too ... Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 21, 2003 Report Posted September 21, 2003 (edited) Twenty some years ago Ann and I made a fake BN cover for our Fred Anderson recording, inspired by Lauren Deutsch's photo. We had to set the type by hand. Edited September 21, 2003 by Chuck Nessa Quote

We had to set the type by hand. I'd think that setting the type by hand would allow you a lot more freedom, unless you REALLY knew the software. Quote
.:.impossible Posted September 21, 2003 Report Posted September 21, 2003 I had to make a cover for ACTION! a couple of years back. The distressed font in the Dolphy cover made me think of this again. Quote
.:.impossible Posted September 21, 2003 Report Posted September 21, 2003 Here is a Dolphy cover I did for dave9199. Quote
.:.impossible Posted September 21, 2003 Report Posted September 21, 2003 In keeping with the original, but for a friend that I introduced to some music a few years back. Quote
.:.impossible Posted September 21, 2003 Report Posted September 21, 2003 Maintaining a bootleg feel. Sorry guys, I felt lazy this morning and decided to go through some old stuff. None of it took any time really. Quote
JSngry Posted September 21, 2003 Report Posted September 21, 2003 (edited) Frank Gauna & Bob Venosa in a hurry to make deadline, with a cruel molestation of the logo due to file resizing in order to attatch the sucker... Edited September 21, 2003 by JSngry Quote
.:.impossible Posted September 21, 2003 Report Posted September 21, 2003 Here's the tray to the Dolphy compilation. Quote
WD45 Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 Damn, impossible, that looks better that many legit releases I have seen. [iron Man, anyone?] Nice work! Quote
.:.impossible Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 Thanks Clinton. Judging by your skills, I'd imagine you feel the same way about cheap cover art. How legitimate recordings get released with bad graphic design, I will never know. There are hundreds of people more skilled than you and I who would be more than willing to get a shot at designing for record labels! FOR FREE! Quote
Joe Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 Feelin' elegaic this morning... Besides, this session was something of a tribute to the classic "Blue Note", "hard bop" sound. Quote

I thought that exact thing when I saw your Dolphy cover. They could get it done at an art college, for pete's sake. Free, I'm almost sure. There are some of those albums out there that I refuse to buy util there are some better covers on them. {mostly grey market stuff.] Quote
BruceH Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 This is a great thread! I've really been enjoying all your covers. Here's my Stanley Cowell - Brilliant Circles. I tried to do it as if it was Reid Miles in 1969 doing a 2-color cover. I hope you like it. :rsmile: That cover ROCKS! I love how the title font fits in with the time and overall graphic. I wanna buy it!! Quote
BFrank Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 With apologies to whoever created this great illustration. Quote
