Did I read here once that Fran works at the Hamburger Hamlet on the Sunset Strip? I was there about a month ago and the hostess looked like it could have been her. Didn't want to ask.

Could well have been. I think I heard that one too. Lovely lady, from what I have seen on interviews with her on various Miles DVDs.

Lovely photos, but the story itself among other things places the Davis nonet (i.e. the Birth of the Cool band) in the 1960s.

Maybe that's where the phrase "close enough for jazz" comes from?

Miles was never officially married to Irene, the woman generally referred to as his first wife (and the mother of Cheryl), so Frances was the first.
