B. Goren. Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 Liza Minnelli falls off stage after collapsing in Sweden Singer rushed back to US for treatment Dec 14, 2007 0 Comments Add NME to MyNME Liza Minelli collapsed onstage in Sweden last night (December 12) and was rushed to hospital where she stayed overnight. The ‘Cabaret’ star was performing at the Scandinavium in Gothenburg and collapsed soon into her arena show. Reports say that singer fell off the side of the stage but was caught by the show’s production manager, saving her from further injuries. The show’s promoter Micheal Silfverskiold told Reuters that Minnelli was taken to a local hospital after the incident, and this morning returned to the US. No reason for the collapse was given. Spokesperson Liz Rosenberg today confirmed she will receive further medical exams: "A doctor upon examining her and in consultation with her NY physician determined that it would be necessary for the Oscar-winning actress and singer to immediately return to New York City to receive further medical examination" Rosenberg said in a statement. http://www.nme.com/news/nme/33179 Quote

Swinging Swede Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 She had seemed unstable the night before too, according to disappointed audience members. And after one of the Stockholm concerts, her manager was arrested for threatening and assaulting a photographer. The Copenhagen concerts are now cancelled. Larry Kart Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 To paraphrase the late Frank O'Hara: "oh Liza Minnelli we love you get up" The original O'Hara poem: Lana Turner has collapsed! I was trotting along and suddenly it started raining and snowing and you said it was hailing but hailing hits you in the head hard so it really was snowing and raining and I was in such a hurry to meet you but the traffic was acting exactly like the sky and suddenly I see a headline LANA TURNER HAS COLLAPSED! there is no snow in Hollywood there is no rain in California I have been to lots of parties and acted perfectly disgraceful but I never actually collapsed oh Lana Turner we love you get up The poem was written by O'Hara on 2/09/62 on the Staten Island Ferry on the way to a contentious reading he shared with Robert Lowell at Wagner College. When at the reading O'Hara mentioned that he had just written the poem on the way over, Lowell became indignant at what he professed to regard as O'Hara's flippant approach to the solemn craft of poetry. ghost of miles Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 Thanks for reminding me of that poem and the story behind it, Larry. I actually have a recording of O'Hara reading it. Quote
