AndrewHill Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 Now that Organissimo is going to survive, I thought that it would be nice to say thanks, and what the board has done for me. Although I was with the old BNBB (and I didn't really post much there) and pretty much lurked here for years before joining, I have learned a great deal about jazz from this board. So, my appreciation starts with the Organissimo BB turning me on to organ jazz, largely from the postings of Soulstream. I now count Big John Patton and Larry Young as some of my favorite artists. Also, I started listening more to electric jazz, thanks to a number of threads on electric Miles and so forth. I now count Bitches Brew, In a Silent Way and his live albums from this period as some of my favorite Miles. If it wasn't for this board, I'd probably still wouldn't listen to anything past Sorcerer if it wasn't for the open-minded views here. Even recently, if it wasn't for a thread I started on British Columbia jazz reissues, I would've never learned about such artists as Ray Russell, and another kind board member that told me where to find an Oxley title from that same series. So I just want to say thanks to this board, the best jazz board on the web. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 Well said, 'cept for some shit. Quote
Larry Kart Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 The "community" point that Jim just made so well on the "Nero problems" thread is a BIG deal to me. Quote
Tom Storer Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 Many are the trails I have discovered and travelled down based on comments from people here, and many are the deep thoughts, fruitful reflections, little-known facts, and assumption-challenging, horizon-opening notions that I have benefited from encountering here. A message board is only ever as good as the people participating in it. Organissimo has a unique combination of individuals who are smart, funny, knowledgeable and quirky, but the sum is greater than the parts, since there's also a group dynamic that gets all those insights flowing out of people's minds and into the pixels on screen. Long may Organissimo live! Quote

alocispepraluger102 Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 how many tens of millions of dollars have been added to the economy because of the thousands of 'must-haves' we've learned about here(and spousal arguments about said purchases)? Quote
JohnS Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 (edited) Discovered a few must haves through the new issues, reissues topics. Made a few friends and through the kindness of members heard some music I'd given up hope of ever hearing. Thanks guys and thank organissimo. Edited December 10, 2007 by JohnS Quote
Big Al Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 (edited) I love this place. Because of this board, I have some friends in Michigan to hang out with for a night when I come up there every year (Skid, Chuck, Joe, Randy, Jim). Various trades and sales have flowered into good friendships and the hope that I'll eventually get to meet y'all in person. Plus, I daresay that no other BB has a member as good-looking as Rachel! Where else am I going to read the wisdom of Sangrey? If I ever get the time, I'm gonna distill the best of his posts into book form (which won't be an easy task, letmetellyou!). Then there's NIGHT LIGHTS, which I would never have heard about if not for this place. Talking about baseball every year with Dan is a treat. Where else am I gonna whine about what a lousy team we have here? Edited December 10, 2007 by Big Al Quote
BFrank Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 Where else am I gonna whine about what a lousy team we have here? But you have Milton Bradley now! Quote

Tim McG Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Organissimo is a place to go when nobody else will accept you. The great discussions, the community and the like-minded moderators make this website a joy to come to and to be human once again. Thank you, Jim. Quote
B. Clugston Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 It's a great place. I'm grateful to this board to introducing me to Big John Patton. Thanks Jim and co. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 I never IMAGINED there'd be a real place on the web where people were REALLY interested in all that funky organ stuff. But as soon as I heard (despite efforts to the contrary) on AAJ that there was a place called Organissimo, I KNEW that this was the place for me. There's more... MG Quote

Christiern Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 For a rotten BBS, infiltrated by egomaniacs who spit on leitmotivs and rudely, routinely beat a side-path, I would say that this is a great place to be, a great place to learn, and for the non-myopic jazz lover, a pixel pulpit beyond compare. Thank you Jim, O Guys, and fellow habitués! Quote
