The Beer Prayer

Recommended Posts

Our lager,

which art in barrels,

hallowed be they drink.

Thy will be drunk,

(I will be drunk),

at home as I am in the tavern.

Give us this day our foamy head,

and forgive us our spillages,

as we forgive those who do spill

against us.

And lead us not into incarceration,

but deliver us from hangovers.

For thine is the beer,

the bitter and the lager,

for ever and ever,

barmen.

I e-mailed that prayer to a bunch of friends, one of whom came up with this response:

Bud Light presents Real Men of Genius. Today, Bud Light salutes you, Mr. Poet in a Bar Room Stupor. . . . . Mr. Poet in a Bar Room Stupor. While others spend their time doing important things and thinking lofty thoughts, you and you alone focus upon raising the state of alcoholic inebriation to that of religious revelation.........

Reminds me of the song that Homer Simpson sang:

(to the tune of "Do-Re-Mi" from the Sound of Music)

Dough- the stuff that buys my beer,

Ray- the guy who sells me beer,

Me- the guy who drinks my beer,

Fa- the distance to my beer,

So- I'll have another beer,

La- ....... la, la, la, la, la, la,

Tea- no thanks, I'll have a beer,

And that wil bring us back to... Doh!
