connoisseur series500 Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Well... I knew it would happen one day. I don't see how it is possible for one person to monitor and pay for a message board the size of this one. I was just hoping that it would be later rather than sooner. We were forced from the BNBB, so this isn't a new experience for many of us. We just have to find another place to congregate. Let's post some serious ideas here. I'm LOST without "Live chat." I need a way to continue to hang with my buds. We all need to extend to Jim our heartfelt thanks for having kept this board going for as long as it has. I suspect that most of us lack the money to cover those monthly charges, so keeping the board going seems an unlikely prospect. Patriots football forum has a live chat function but the mods are major ass-retentive dicks about stuff. Catesta wouldn't last five minutes! Quote
Joe G Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 There are plenty of chat/instant message programs out there. I think gmail just added one, for instance. As long as you've got the email info for the org chat gang, it would be easy to set it up. A little tougher to coordinate, though. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted December 4, 2007 Author Report Posted December 4, 2007 Oops! Just noticed a similar thread was started in another section! Quote
sidewinder Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 We were forced from the BNBB, so this isn't a new experience for many of us. We just have to find another place to congregate. That's a really good mindset to start with. Jim was kind enough to host the homeless after the BNBB demise - in what could well have been a temporary set up but turned out to be 4 years (was it that long?). We've been here before, it can be solved and it is worth solving ! Quote

Tim McG Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 I date back to the old Jazz Central Station and the Jazz on Line daze of BBS yore. It was a tough deal to watch those sites go down, too. So many good conversations and excellent information regarding Jazz and so much to learn. Then Jazz Corner came along and so did Oganissimo. Jazz Corner can be a bit bawdy and "loud" at times, but some good Jazz folks post there in Speak Out. Might be an alternative.... I really have been very lucky to be a part of these and the information I have garnered over the last four years on Organissimo and Jazz Corner really shaped my knowledge of Jazz and the subtle intricacies of the genre and the musicians who play/create it. BERIGAN Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Conn, I am glad you mentioned it here, because I wouldn't have noticed it on the Forums Discussion section!!! Shocked, to say the least...I understand though...haven't dug thru all of the many posts there, but has anyone mentioned having trusted old timey folks running the board for Jim??? Perhaps 4-5 folks like JSngry, RDK, Ghost, Conn, BFrank, etc, could do this???? Just mentioning.... Quote

Guest Bill Barton Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Well, if it comes down to moving somewhere else my vote goes to Jazz Corner's Speakeasy too. There aren't too many people there who are easily offended. Quote

Larry Kart Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Organissimo feels like, and is, home -- more so than any place I've been at or around on the 'Net and as much as or more so than many places I've been anywhere. I've thought, said, and felt things here that I probably never would have done otherwise. I'm very sad about the closing, though Jim has to do what he thinks he has to do. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Shouldn't we be looking for a burning bush or something? Quote

T.D. Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 I've been a member for a relatively short time, mostly lurking (aside from "Name Three People"), but have enjoyed this forum immensely. My thanks to Jim and Organissimo for hosting, and I respect the decision. I'm going to make myself scarce, as it seems rather sad and pointless to continue lurking and posting at a site that will disappear at the end of the month. Will check back re. future plans, and hope to become a regular at any successor forum. Quote
MoGrubb Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 (edited) ........ Jazz Corner can be a bit bawdy and "loud" at times, but some good Jazz folks post there in Speak Out. Might be an alternative.... ... JazzCorner is fine for discussing music. But, if you're in disagreement, there's a screwed up vibe concerning certain topics such as, e.g., illegal immigration over there. I can't ever go back to JC. Edited December 5, 2007 by MoGrubb Quote
Stefan Wood Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Well, I haven't been posting as much in the past year, but I still like to read the various threads. This does it for me, no more jazz obsessing. Sorry to see the forum go. Quote
