Big Al Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 The thread to post about your faves and least faves: Christmas music in general, Christmas/holiday albums, music that reminds you of the holidays (for better and worse), mall Xmas muzak that is driving you to commit ransom acts of killing, etc etc etc. I'll start by saying that if I have to hear "All I Want for Christmas is You" by whoever it is that feels like she has to keep shouting as the key goes higher, I will require the white suit and the straps. Thank God for Tony Bennett's album and Percy Faith's album. They never fail to make me feel all snowy & Christmasy inside! Quote
AndrewHill Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 Guaraldi's Charlie Brown Christmas is the Christmas album in our house...until my wife had to ruin it by buying that Clay Aiken Christmas album Quote
7/4 Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 There's a long standing ban on Christmas music in my house. Quote

Hot Ptah Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 This album has been reissued on CD only this year. It is a must-have, for the incredible song "Christmas Tree", one of the strangest songs ever recorded. Quote

You know that he won an Emmy for his theme to "Dragnet" that we all know so well? Does the dog go boo-hoo-hoo? Edited December 3, 2007 by rostasi Quote

Larry Kart Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 I will forever associate "Jingle Bell Rock" with a going-off-to-college female clerk in a Famous Footwear store who was bobbing her head to it while ringing up a pair of shoes for me about eight years ago. It was a kind of animated modern-American-shopping-mall genre painting of a relaxed, fun person (or so it seemed) making some relaxed fun for herself as best she could during a long winter work day, and for that reason I smile every time I hear that silly song. Peter Friedman Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 These are probably my favorite Christmas jazz CDs: An Uptown Christmas - Uptown (Barry Harris, Tommy Flanagan, Charlie Rouse, Carl Fontana, Al Cohn, Kenny Barron, Johnny Coles, Frank Wess, Sahib Shihab, Jack Sheldon, Richard Wyands, etc.) Niels Jorgen Steen Quintet - Bebop Christmas - Storyville (with Bob Rockwell on tenor sax) Dave McKenna - Christmas Ivory - Concord Jazz Jim Galloway & Jay McShann - Jim And Jay's Christmas - Sackville Rob McConnell and The Boss Brass - Big Band Christmas - Concord Jazz Quote
Guest Bill Barton Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 (edited) Well, shall I check in as a "humbug"? It's way more rants than raves for sure. The Station Manager at KSER where I used to do a show banned all X-mas music; a man after my own heart. My only concession this year was playing Rahsaan's "We Free Kings" at the beginning of this early morning's show. The insipid all-Christmas-jazz playlists that I've seen on the programmers' listserv remind me of why I don't listen to mainstream public radio. That said, I have nothing against Christmas, in fact I give all the holidays equal time. Happy whatever-holiday-you're-celebrating. Edited December 25, 2007 by Bill Barton Quote
