I look forward to seeing something else on the air. Food Network is my favorite channel, and there's way too much Emeril. I don't find him at all entertaining.

I used to watch Emeril, but quickly grew tired of the show. Not that he isn't a talented chef, just too much shtick for me.

Food Network has a habit of over doing shows and the on air personalities. Too much Emeril was a problem and now way too much Rachel Ray, the likes of Paula Deen is even more of a problem.

just a dash of rachel was cool, but not the whole shaker.

I've enjoyed Emeril's show over the years, but it does seem to have run its course.

I like Alton Brown's Good Eats, too, but he also is running the risk of overexposure. His role as the "tough judge" on their "Next Top Chef" show was laughable (that show was such a rip-off of Bravo's "Top Chef", which I thought was a much better show).

Paula Deen's shows are just fantasy. Fun to watch, but I'll probably never use any of her recipes. Plus she does get on one's nerves after awhile, especially that "old broad who obviously smokes" laugh of hers.

Rachael Ray's recipes are a little more realistic, but she also wears thin quickly.

Nothing against any of these folks, really. Like most networks, once someone becomes popular the Food Network seems to immediately run them into the ground with overexposure.

Perhaps they will have more time to air programs featuring the lovely Giada di Laurentiis :rhappy:

Sorry to say, I've seen enough of her as well.

I'd rather watch big Mario Batali work his magic.

If you dig Batali, you should read Bill Buford's book 'Heat.' Interesting window into his world. Batali is larger than life in more than his physical appearance!

Sound like an interesting book- I'd also like to read Anthony Boudrain's book "Kitchen Confidential".

Edit: I heard an interview w/Boudrain on NPR today. Really a fascinating person who's had quite a life.

On a side note, Bourdain and Batali are good friends. Mario is one of the few chefs on Food Network, Bourdain does not make fun of and actually considers him among the best in the world.

WD, thanks for that recommendation. I've never met Batali but have met his partner Joe Bastianich whose mother Lidia does not live far from me. Lidia is also true master in the kitchen.

Lidia's cookbooks are well done and easy to follow. A lot of cookbooks leave out the explanation, like you already know the chemistry behind what is happening while cooking. I find that I enjoy the cooking shows on PBS and Bourdain's No Reservations on the Travel Channel much more than the Food Network anymore.

I will miss the Emeril Live show. Yeah, he could be a bit much but his food was good.

If I recall, there is a good bit of Joe in the book as well. It's a fun read, but not for the squeamish. The section of the author's apprenticeship in a butcher shop is quite frank!

LTB & I never miss Lidia's shows on PBS. Part of our Saturday morning routine, along w/Rick Bayless' thing.

But again, I will recommend Chef Robert Rainford & License To Grill on Discovery Home. Food like that don't come 'round every day!
