HolyStitt Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 Thanks! With the additional 10% off I was able to buy the Complete Stax/Volt Soul Singles, Vol. 2 for $81. I have been on the fence on this material for sometime but at that price I jumped. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 I've been taking advantage recently of there 8.99 sale and free shipment for orders over $50. An additional 10% off might spur me into making one more round of purchases before the holidays. Got to get more of Sonny Criss! Quote
GregK Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 so is $80 for that Miles Chronicle set a good deal? I still need to get a lot of his Prestige recordings and that box would do it. Quote
Unk Posted November 27, 2007 Author Report Posted November 27, 2007 At $8.98 for a standard CD (including Keepnews Collection), less 10%, with free shipping (perhaps you can also avoid tax, where you live), it's not too bad. The new Trane box is there too. Quote
mikelz777 Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 (edited) Does anyone have any recommendations? Are there any gems in the sale we shouldn't miss? Edited November 28, 2007 by mikelz777 Quote
Big Al Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Does anyone have any recommendations? Are there any gems in the sale we shouldn't miss? OJC Limited Editions are 10.98, as are any remaining K2's (good luck with those). SACDs are 13.98. As far as the Hybrid SACDs go, I can heartily recommend the following: Cal Tjader with Stan Getz Gettin' Together - Art Pepper Art Pepper Plus Eleven (probably the best-sounding of the bunch, and that's saying a lot!) Happy shopping! Quote
Unk Posted November 28, 2007 Author Report Posted November 28, 2007 Any more recommendations? I happen to have each of Big Al's (thanks, Al), but find myself one item short of free shipping. I've got most of the 'core' jazz canon, so I'm looking on the periphery. شكرا Quote

bluesbro Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 This is what I got. For $8 each including shipping, Im a happy camper: After Hours - Dizzy OJCCD-1932-2 No Problem - Rollins OJCCD-1014-2 The Pianist - Ellington OJCCD-717-2 The New Oscar Pettiford Sextet - Pettiford OJCCD-1926-2 And Horns - Miles OJCCD-053-2 Monk OJCCD-016-2 Jazzical Moods - Mingus OJCCD-1857-2 Quote

Somehow I was thinking this was a bigger box. Just need to do a quick evaluation of what I've already got/overlap. Quote
HolyStitt Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Any Blue Mitchell on Riverside I second these recordings. I love all of the Riverside Blue Mitchell stuff. I loved his stuff with Horace Silver but these recordings brought my appreciation to a whole 'nother level. Quote
T.D. Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Damn. I placed an order of over $50 a couple of months ago. This new added 10% off may force me to place another. But I'd better do the Christmas shopping first, so as to stay out of trouble... BTW, I got a glossy Concord catalog in the mail a couple of days ago (followed by e-mail). Content was of little interest, as I'm more inclined to the back catalog, but it did give the 10% off discount code. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 I purchased this a few months back based on the many fine recommendation here. A real good one! Quote
mikelz777 Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 (edited) Aye-yi-yi, I don't know if I can bring myself to springing for another $50.00 worth of CDs with all the recent purchases I have made but there are at least two I really want which are still a bargain at the final cost of $11 to $12 each (after shipping) compared to the prices I've seen them on the internet. (if they can be found at all) I'd second or third the recommendations for the Blue Mitchell and Jimmy Heath CDs available. I've really enjoyed them a lot. Edited November 29, 2007 by mikelz777 Quote
street singer Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 (edited) Here's what I ordered... Max Roach Quartet Featuring Hank Mobley Oliver Nelson With Lem Winchester - 'Nocturne' Shelly Manne & His Men, Vol. 2 Thad Jones - 'Mad Thad' Charles McPherson - 'Con Alma!' Stan Getz With Cal Tjader (SACD) The Curtis Counce Group - 'Carl's Blues' The Curtis Counce Group - 'Landslide' Johnny Griffin Quartet - 'Way Out!' Lennie Niehaus Vol.1: The Quintets Thanks for the heads-up on this sale, guys! A couple of recommendations... For anyone who doesn't have 'em (and likes vibes), you've gotta get those Walt Dickerson and Lem Winchester CD's before they're gone. They're already selling for outrageous amounts from Amazon resellers... Get 'em while you still can! Edited November 29, 2007 by street singer Quote
T.D. Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 For Hampton Hawes fans, I recommend Bird Song. I got this, which I had assumed was OOP (and was, at that time, pricey at Amazon Marketplace), in my last order. Quote
king ubu Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 It seems they found new stock of many OOP titles, so I suggest you act quick... I just did... Some OOP stuff that's up again includes the Dizzy Reece discs, Teddy Edward's "It's All Right", Barry Harris' "Luminescence", Gil Melle etc. And don't forget to use the 10% promo code, too! (I used "CMG5" just now.) Quote
mikelz777 Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 (edited) I had to use restraint so I limited myself to two CDs that I really wanted but was unwilling to pay the high prices demanded for them elsewhere on the internet. Don Sleet - All Members This one's a hidden gem by someone a lot of people may never had heard of. Check it out. Jimmy Heath - The Quota A companion to his "Triple Threat" release.
