The Eskimos had this one wrapped up five minutes into the second quarter.  Matt Nichols had a good game, but the Ottawa defense looked pretty bad.  This was Nichols' first win as a pro.  Grant Shaw missed a couple of converts.

Ottawa has not won in Edmonton since 1983 when the quarterbacks were JC Watts and Warren Moon.

This went into overtime.  There has been much talk on the internet about the Riders' play-calling at the end of regulation.  They blew a two-score lead with three minutes remaining, and they took a knee at the end instead of trying to win.

The Stamps had a strong first half and a weak second half.  The Argos closed it to 22-20, but couldn't get close enough for a field goal to take the lead.

The Argos are the last team in the league to lose a game.

Another game with heavy rain.  BC controlled the entire game, but won by only 3 points.  Commentators think that the Riders' offense with Kevin Glenn is quite satisfactory, but that their defense just isn't good enough.  However, the Riders have lost all four games by a total of only 12 points.

Travis Lulay ran 7 times for 105 yards.

The Redblacks' kicker Alvarado missed a convert and a field goal late in the fourth, either of which would have won it.  But he redeemed himself with a field goal in overtime.

Jon Cornish broke his thumb, and has been placed on the six-game injured list.

The Lions swept the floor with the Argos in the first quarter, and took a 21-0 lead 30 seconds into the second.  After that, they stopped doing anything right, and the Argos came back to win it.

Here's something I didn't know.  John Hodge says that Canadian teams wore only one uniform until the games were televised in the '50s.  At that time, the league required the road team to wear white so that the viewer at home could tell the difference between the teams on his black and white TV.

http://3downnation.com/2015/07/29/time-for-cfl-to-eliminate-away-uniforms/#comments

I can relate.  One year, maybe 1979, I attended a Pittsburgh Pirates game against the visiting San Diego Padres.  The Pirates wore black and gold, and the Padres wore brown and gold, and I found it difficult to differentiate the teams.  And I was there!

Heavy rain in Winnipeg.  Despite his knee injury on Sunday, Drew Willy had a good game.  If it weren't for such a good game by Andrew Harris, BC might have been blown out.

Dana, as I have mentioned, the Riders have been keeping it close.  Their defense has given up the most points after five weeks, but Kevin Glenn has been great filling in for Darian Durant.

Now that Glenn is out, this week they will start their third string QB, Brett Smith, with Tino Sunseri backing him up.

Good luck with that!  The Eskimos have the best defensive line in the league, and they are playing them in 21 hours.

The Riders have lost their first six games for the first time since 1979 (their first year without Ron Lancaster at QB).  Brett Smith didn't look too bad starting his first pro game.  He threw some picks in the second half which made the final score look bad.

Matt Nichols continues to look good.  (I didn't realize last week that when Franklin came in to lead the Eskimos to four second half touchdowns, the rain had stopped.)

With a strong wind at their back, the Als led 17-0 after one.  But when they had the wind at their back, the Stamps scored 17 of their own; and the Als led 20-17 at the half.  For some reason the entire second half was a defensive struggle, and Marquay McDaniel's TD reception in the third won it for the Stamps.
