GA Russell Posted August 6, 2012 Author Report Posted August 6, 2012 The Riders have signed Sandro DeAngelis. His collapse was always a mystery to me (and maybe the Ticats as well), and maybe he'll bounce back now that he is back in the windy West. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=402503 Quote
GA Russell Posted August 7, 2012 Author Report Posted August 7, 2012 Today was the Civic Holiday in Canada. It gives the Canadians a last three day weekend while it is still warm enough to go swimming. British Columbia Lions 18....Toronto Argonauts 9 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4519646 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=402508 It seemed like there were a lot of penalties and turnovers. Horrors! Both the Hamilton and Calgary websites failed to stream the game, and I was unable to listen. The Hamilton site said that any problem might be due to their Olympics coverage, so maybe everyone will be back on the internet when the Games are over. Edited August 10, 2012 by GA Russell Quote
GA Russell Posted August 11, 2012 Author Report Posted August 11, 2012 Good news! I heard from the Ticats' station CHML today, and they said that the issue is Olympics related, and that after the Games are over everything will be back to normal. Most of the CFL teams' broadcast partners (including both Hamilton and Calgary) are members of the Corus chain, so I expect that this is a chain-wide situation. Quote
GA Russell Posted August 11, 2012 Author Report Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) Edmonton Eskimos 28....Saskatchewan Roughriders 20 http://www.sportsnet...aspx?id=4520731 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=402868 I was able to listen to the game on the Riders' station. The Eskimos' station is another Corus property, and they were not streaming tonight. Great see-saw game between the league's two best defenses. Down by eight points, the Riders were moving the ball downfield as time expired. Jyles seems to be getting better with each game. ***** All CFL games will be streamed live on ESPN3.com (to the US only) for the rest of the season. http://www.cfl.ca/page/game_broadcast Edited August 11, 2012 by GA Russell Quote
GA Russell Posted August 12, 2012 Author Report Posted August 12, 2012 The Bombers are the only team not in the thick of things, so they have decided to start Joey Elliott at QB this week against the Ticats. They have scored a league-low 127 points so far. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=402891 Quote
GA Russell Posted August 12, 2012 Author Report Posted August 12, 2012 Every year the bye weeks are the last two weeks of August, at the mid-point of the season, to give the players the chance to rest their bodies for the second half of the year. I have wondered why the bye weeks are early this year, and it has dawned on me that the league decided to schedule them during the Olympics when fans' thoughts might be occupied elsewhere. Quote
GA Russell Posted August 12, 2012 Author Report Posted August 12, 2012 SHOCKER! GA Russell Posted August 16, 2012 Author Report Posted August 16, 2012 Here's an article about the financial problems of the UFL that you might find interesting. GA Russell Posted August 17, 2012 Author Report Posted August 17, 2012 Winnipeg Blue Bombers 32....Hamilton Tiger-Cats 25 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4521999 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=403242 Crazy game. In the second the Ticats had a 14-4 lead. The Bombers then went on to outscore them 21-3. Then the Ticats tied it. Late in the game the Bombers scored a TD to take the lead. With one minute to go at mid-field on third and one, Burris threw a bad pass instead of running the ball. That effectively ended the game. Chris Williams ran another punt back for a TD, his fourth of the year. Quote

Montreal led 28-0 in the second quarter, and then coasted. Edmonton outscored them 14-0 in the fourth to make the final score look more respectable than it should have. Quote

See-saw battle with two good offenses and two good defenses. Sean Whyte kicked a 37-yard field goal on the last play of the game to win it. Today was Anthony Calvillo's fortieth birthday. With 436 TD passes, Calvillo moved ahead of Warren Moon to second place on the North American pro football list. Brett Favre is first with 508. Chris Williams tied Gizmo Williams' season record with five kicks returned for TD's. Remember that Chris W. had another that he goofed off on and was tackled at the one. Quote

Paul McCallum kicked a 41-yard field goal on the last play of the game to win it. Another see-saw battle. The Lions led 10-0 at the half, with all of their points in the second quarter. The Lions tried a new offense in the first quarter, and it didn't work. In the first half, the Bombers got only 4 first downs. But the Bombers scored the next 14 points, and led by four with less than five minutes to go in the game. BC scored a touchdown, and the Bombers tied it with 27 seconds left in the game. Quote
