GA Russell Posted November 14, 2011 Author Report Posted November 14, 2011 (edited) Hamilton Tiger-Cats 52....Montreal Alouettes 44 http://64.246.64.33/...aspx?id=4450223 Terrific game! With the score tied at 44, the Ticats should have won it on the last play of the game, but a stupid time count violation put them out of field goal range. I meant to say this during the week, but forgot; and I realize it's easier to say after the game is played, but here's what I think. I am surprised but not shocked that the Ticats won in Montreal today. They finished 8-10, and when they won they looked like world beaters, but when they lost they stunk. I think the Ticats have the ability to beat every team in the league, but I don't think they have the ability to forge a three-game winning streak, which is what it will take for them to win the Grey Cup. By the way, a third place team wins the Grey Cup about once every ten years, and it has been about ten years since the Lions did it last, so it is time. On the other hand, an Eastern third place team hasn't won the Grey Cup since the 1970 Als. ***** Edmonton Eskimos 33....Calgary Stampeders 19 http://64.246.64.33/...aspx?id=4450282 The Eskimos were the dominant team today. GA Russell Posted November 16, 2011 Author Report Posted November 16, 2011 Jerome Messam is out for the year with a knee problem. It will be a big upset if the Eskimos can beat the Lions without him. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=380507 Quote
Van Basten II Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 (edited) Big talk here in Montreal is whether Calvillo will come back, his health seems to be a factor, with more proof being delivered about concussions having a debilitating permanent effect on athlete's health, current pro athletes seem to prefer to be safe than sorry. Other noteworthy thing about the match, only thirty thousand spectators were there at the Big O , the Als seem to have lost their power of attraction in Montreal, hope we're not gonna back to the dark ages of the mid eighties. GA Russell Posted November 16, 2011 Author Report Posted November 16, 2011 VB2, yes, that attendance figure in Montreal is a big surprise to me. Dave Naylor in his article above mentioned that the team probably would have made more money by playing the game at McGill and raising the ticket prices for the playoff game. Personally, I like to see players go out on top. It wouldn't bother me if Calvillo won the Most Outstanding Player Award and promptly retired. Quote
GA Russell Posted November 16, 2011 Author Report Posted November 16, 2011 The All-Star team was announced today. I'm surprised that Lulay got the nod over Calvillo. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=380590 Quote

GA Russell Posted November 17, 2011 Author Report Posted November 17, 2011 In a surprising move, the Bombers have released Terrence-Jeffers Harris. It's an odd time to be cutting somebody. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=380669 Quote
GA Russell Posted November 18, 2011 Author Report Posted November 18, 2011 The Ticats have picked up Terrence Jeffers-Harris. I suppose he might be able to tell them something about the Bombers' playbook and game plan they don't already know. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=380755 Quote

It's windy, with the wind chill at minus 21 Celsius. I haven't figured out what that Celsius figure translates to. The Bombers have dominated a low scoring game. It's 13-3 with six minutes left. Eastern Final Winnipeg Blue Bombers 19....Hamilton Tiger-Cats 3 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=380909 Chris Garrett rushed for a short touchdown on the last play of the game to close out the scoring. They didn't bother to attempt the convert. It was an interesting game because the score was close the whole game, but the Ticats' offense really didn't do much. This was the last game played at 56 year old Winnipeg/Canad Inns Stadium. Next year the Bombers will play at the new stadium now under construction on the Univ. of Manitoba campus. ***** I've just heard the BC announcers discuss something I hadn't realized. For the first time in league history, none of the four teams playing in the Finals played in the Finals the previous year. Quote
GA Russell Posted November 21, 2011 Author Report Posted November 21, 2011 British Columbia Lions 40....Edmonton Eskimos 23 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=380914 The Lions dominated the entire game. The Eskimos got their act together in the fourth quarter with a couple of touchdowns, but by then it was too little too late. So the Grey Cup this year will be the Winnipeg Blue Bombers against the British Columbia Lions in Vancouver! Quote

Here are my picks: Calvillo Johnson Messam Owens Williams Bourke Well, I've made my picks, and I won't weasel out now. But it has occurred to me that since Lulay was chosen (over Calvillo) as the quarterback for the All-Star team, the same voters aren't going to choose Calvillo over Lulay for the Most Outstanding Player Award. GA Russell Posted November 26, 2011 Author Report Posted November 26, 2011 (edited) LOL!!! You've got to read this. Joe Kapp and Angelo Mosca got into it last night. Both are 73 years old. I had Mosca's bubble gum card in 1959, and Kapp's in 1964. At a minimum, Kapp threw a punch, and Mosca proactively waved his cane! http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=381308 PS - McMaster beat Laval last night for the Vanier Cup, 41-38 in double OT. The game was played in Vancouver. They are trying something different, and staging the game along with the Grey Cup because the Grey Cup is where all the media are. Next year both games will be in Toronto. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=381340 Edited November 26, 2011 by GA Russell Quote
