GA Russell Posted March 1, 2011 Author Report Posted March 1, 2011 The Ticats have released DeAndra Cobb and Otis Floyd. Cobb suffered the sophomore slump last year, and when they signed Avon Cobourne he became expendable. I guess Floyd is getting up there in years, but it wouldn't surprise me if both Cobb and Floyd land elsewhere. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/ticats-release-cobb-floyd/article1925518/ Quote

GA Russell Posted March 10, 2011 Author Report Posted March 10, 2011 All last year they said that Adrian McPherson was playing out his option and would be gone because he was tired of sitting behind Anthony Calvillo. But today the Als announced that he had re-signed for another two years. Maybe he is betting that Calvillo will not be the same after his thyroid operation. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/alouettes-sign-adrian-mcpherson-to-extension/article1935749/ Quote
GA Russell Posted March 15, 2011 Author Report Posted March 15, 2011 The Eskimos released Maurice Lloyd today. He's a great player, but the rumor last year was that he had a bad attitude. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=358053 Quote

GA Russell Posted March 24, 2011 Author Report Posted March 24, 2011 Here's a Reuters article that suggests that if the NFL doesn't play this year, it will be an opportunity for the CFL and the UFL to get American tv exposure. Personally, I think that most NFL fans would prefer to watch college ball. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/News/2011/03/24/17736166.html ***** The NFL has proposed extending the season to 18 games. Here are comments from Doug Flutie and Danny McManus about that. It should be remembered that when Flutie played in the USFL, that was just a couple of months after his college career ended, so no wonder he was tired. By the way, the picture of Flutie is from a game I attended, the 1996 Grey Cup. Great game in the snow in Hamilton! http://bostonherald.com/sports/football/other_nfl/view.bg?articleid=1325541 Quote

GA Russell Posted March 30, 2011 Author Report Posted March 30, 2011 The Bombers have traded Stephen Jyles to the Argos for their first pick (fourth overall). Considering how injury-prone Buck Pierce is, I don't understand why they would trade Jyles. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=360142 Quote

GA Russell Posted April 19, 2011 Author Report Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) On Thursday the league announced four rule changes: 1) No blocking below the waist on forward passes completed beyond the scrimmage line. 2) More use of replay in control central. 3) On punts exiting the field between the 20s, the receiving team will have different options. 4) A player pushed out of bounds by an opponent may return to the field. I'm opposed to that last one. I think the players should be encouraged to play away from the sidelines because it's forbidden to hit a player who is in touch (out of bounds). http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=362251 ***** The Eskimos expect to sign Marcus Adams. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=362657 Edited April 19, 2011 by GA Russell Quote
