I turned it off during the second quarter. ***** Calgary Stampeders 27....British Columbia Lions 18 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=s...aspx?id=4256357 Decent game. The Lions faded in the stretch. ***** Saskatchewan Roughriders 23....Edmonton Eskimos 20 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=s...aspx?id=4256545 Lots of fun. Michael Bishop had his best game of the season. Apparently Mike Kelly no longer has much of a hand in the offense. The Argos have a pretty tough schedule the rest of the way, and it is difficult to see how they can make the playoffs. Quote

The win has put the Bombers back in the playoff hunt. Jovon Johnson ran back a missed FG 118 yards for a TD. ***** British Columbia Lions 19....Saskatchewan Roughriders 16 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.../AJN4257870.htm Darian Durant had a bad day, but the Riders almost pulled it out. But Sean Whyte won the game with a FG with five seconds left. ***** Montreal Alouettes 27....Toronto Argonauts 8 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.../AJN4257985.htm Believe it or not, the Argos made a game of it for a while. A tale of two halves. The Eskimos didn't get a first down until 7:23 was left in the second quarter. By then the score was 17-1. But Ricky Ray had it in gear the rest of the way. At the half the score was 20-11. The Lions started the third quarter with an impressive drive, and bumped the lead to 27-11. Over the course of the second half, the Eskimos then scored 20 unanswered points. Ray scored a TD on a quarterback sneak with 57 seconds left in the game to give Edmonton its first lead of the game 31-27. With 12 seconds to go, Buck Pierce threw a deep pass to Geroy Simon. The two defenders collided, and Simon went all the way for the score, a 62 yard TD pass. On the last play of the game, Noel Prefontaine tried a 59 yard field goal, but it fell short. Edmonton was in first place in the West after 8 games with a 5-3 record. They fired offensive coordinator Rick Worman, and replaced him with Kevin Strasser, who had worked with Danny Macciocia in Montreal. Since then the Eskimos have gone 1-5 and are now in last place. So everyone in Edmonton is asking who the genius is who is responsible. PS - Paul McCallum did the kicking for the Lions instead of Sean Whyte. I didn't hear why. The Riders led throughout. It looked like it was probably over at halftime, but the Argos didn't give up in the second half. Kerry Joseph was out for a while, and Cody Pickett looked good in relief. Jamie Boreham injured his neck last week, and it now looks like he may be out for the season. Weston Dressler sprained his ankle very badly while making a great catch tonight, so he is expected to miss next week's game. Edited October 11, 2009 by GA Russell Quote

The Stamps were in first place in the West, and they were never in the game. Another bad showing by Henry Burris. The Stamps let backup QB Drew Tate play in the fourth quarter. I think that's the first action he's seen all year. ***** Winnipeg Blue Bombers 38....Hamilton Tiger-Cats 28 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.../AJN4259758.htm The two teams are now tied at 6-8, as are the Eskimos. The Bombers are on a three-game winning streak, while the Ticats and Eskimos continue to lose. With three minutes to go in the third quarter, the score was 31-0, and the Ticat fans were leaving Ivor Wynne. But the Ticats with Kevin Glenn in the game started to play well, and sort of put a scare into the Bombers. Remember twenty years ago when the league broadcast a game each week? It was called the CFN - the Canadian Football Network. ESPN carried those games each week. The announcers were Bob Irving and Neil Lumsden. Well they were reunited for one game on the Bombers radio broadcast. It was a lot of fun listening to them again. When the score was 31-0, they said that the game was the Ticat fans' second turkey of the day! ***** The Argos' owners are looking to sell the team. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/for-...article1322625/ ***** The Argos will play a regular season game in Moncton next year. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/argo...article1323867/ ***** Gregg Xenakes Week 17 preview http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=s...aspx?id=4260067 Quote

We're talking about two bad ballclubs here. The Eskimos won because they scored two TDs on big plays. The Argos had the better of them on the stats. That's not to say that the Argos looked good! The win keeps the Eskimos in contention not only for the crossover playoff spot but also for a Western spot. Sask and Calgary have 8 wins, and BC and now Edmonton have 7 wins. I was unable to listen to the second and third quarters, but did hear the Sask broadcast at home and the Calgary broadcast in the car on Sirius. Both sets of announcers were talking about what a great game it was. The score was tied at 30 at the end of regulation. It looked like the Riders were going to win it in the first overtime when the ref made a very questionable call that gave the Stampeders a first down and new life. Quote
GA Russell Posted October 22, 2009 Author Report Posted October 22, 2009 (edited) Montreal Alouettes 41....Hamilton Tiger-Cats 38 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.../AJN4260832.htm The Als clinched first place last week, so they have nothing to play for for the rest of the regular season. It's difficult to get too interested in games like this at the end of the season because you don't know how hard a team is trying to win. So I didn't bother to tune in until the end of the second quarter. Due to his good play last week, Kevin Glenn got the start and had a good game. Anthony Calvillo started for the Als, but gave way early in the third quarter to Adrian McPherson. It was a good game, but as I say, you don't know how hard the Als were trying. ***** British Columbia Lions 24....Winnipeg Blue Bombers 21 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=s...aspx?id=4260851 Michael Bishop looked good in the first quarter, and thanks to three turnovers the Bombers took a 14-0 lead. But Bishop threw interceptions the rest of the game, and the Lions were able to pull it out. Buck Pierce injured his shoulder in the first quarter and was out for the game. Jarious Jackson was already on the injured list, so that took the Lions down to 3rd stringer Travis Lulay. (Where was Casey Printers?, you might ask, as might I.) Lulay did a surprisingly good job. Bombers punter Renaud was injured last week, so they had Alexis Serna do both the placekicking and the punting. Perhaps as a result, he missed two FGs. ***** I have been paying attention to the CFL on a weekly basis since 1975, and I don't think that I have ever seen the standings this close. After 15 games, the Als have clinched first place and the Argos have been eliminated from playoff contention. Saskatchewan, Calgary and BC have 8 wins, Edmonton has 7 wins, and Hamilton and Winnipeg have 6 wins. ***** This is true: Because of Serna's problems this week, the Bombers have brought back Troy Westwood despite the bridges he burned when he left the club. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1329550/ http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Win...473256-sun.html ***** It looks like Casey Printers is going to start this week against the Riders. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/prin...article1333057/ ***** Gregg Xenakes Week 17 preview http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=s...aspx?id=4261367 Edited October 22, 2009 by GA Russell Quote

GA Russell Posted October 24, 2009 Author Report Posted October 24, 2009 Hamilton Tiger-Cats 26....Toronto Argonauts 17 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1336770/ Going into the game, the Argos had the worst home record in the league, and the Ticats had the worst road record in the league. So something had to give. The Ticats led 20-0 at the half, but the Argos put a scare into them in the second half. Late in the game the score was 23-17, but a Nick Setta FG put the game on ice. Kevin Glenn started again, and it looks like he has won the job. ***** Calgary Stampeders 30....Edmonton Eskimos 7 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1336901/ Decent game in the first half, but Calgary completely dominated the second half. With the win, Calgary clinched a playoff spot. ***** I saw Eddie Davis play in Birmingham for the Barracudas in 1995. He and Anthony Calvillo are the last two players left who played for the American teams. Here's an article about him. GA Russell Posted October 25, 2009 Author Report Posted October 25, 2009 Winnipeg Blue Bombers 41....Montreal Alouettes 24 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1337194/ Marc Trestman played Adrian McPherson instead of Anthony Calvillo today. McPherson was the game's leading rusher with 95 yards! Ever since they clinched first place, the Als have given up a ton of points. Michael Bishop passed for over 400 yards today. ***** Saskatchewan Roughriders 33....British Columbia Lions 30 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1337227/ Casey Printers played the whole game for the Lions. Very exciting finish. The Riders led most of the game, but with 6 minutes to go, the Lions scored to take a 23-22 lead. Then with 3 minutes to go Barron Miles ran an INT back 43 yards for a TD to give the Lions an 8 point lead. But the Riders came back and scored with a minute left, and then made the two-point convert. With just a few seconds left, Luca Congi's long FG attempt to win the game hit the upright. So for the second straight week, the Riders entered OT tied at 30. Up first, the Riders (Congi) kicked a FG. With their turn, the Lions had first and goal at the 9, so they could go for the TD to win, knowing that a FG to send them into the next round of OT was a sure thing. And James Patrick intercepted Printers' pass in the end zone to win it. With the win, the Riders clinched a playoff spot. Quote

The Argos didn't show up when Kerry Joseph was in the game. Their only touchdown came when they were quarterbacked by someone named Stephen Reaves. The Argos had 21 penalties for 150 yards! The Eskimos' victory put the pressure on the Ticats and the Bombers to keep pace. ***** Hamilton Tiger-Cats 24....Saskatchewan Roughriders 6 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=s...aspx?id=4263371 I was unable to listen to this game until the last 15 seconds.
